DST in the MMP

OMG y’all DST haters can go jump in a cold lake. I got to leave work before the sun went down WHAAAAT.

Did my good deed for the day, too. I am thankful for the opportunity to do a random Nice Thing.

Was taking out the trash and ran (almost literally) into a homeless guy who was checking our dumpster.
This is, sadly, a not uncommon occurrence. I deliberately leave any “stuck” food (e.g. someone called in an order & then never showed up) in a way that makes it very easy to retrieve.

Anyways, the guy had pulled a cig butt from the ashtray (less than a half inch left) and asked me very politely if I had a lighter.
I do - and told him to keep it. I have more at home. He can have a dang Bic.

Then he asked, again super politely, for some water. He said he was very thirsty. I said, “Hold on. I got you.”

Went back inside, looked around - nobody was paying attention - so I got him a water bottle AND a Powerade. Paid for em. Ran back outside quickly (I had shit I needed to do!) but handed those two bottles to a very grateful man.

Told him I may not be able to hook him up like this again. I don’t want to set my crew up for someone thinking they can just wander up and get whatever they want. This was a one-off, but he caught me at a good moment.

{clutches pearls}

They are here in western Mitten State, too. I love all the oaks and maples around me, but right now, they’re all lovin’ each other, if you know what I mean, and I think you do…

Re: the time change. Sunday, I simply wandered into work. Looked at my manager, and was straight up, “I don’t know what time it is. I don’t even know what time I’m supposed to be here. So … I can cross stitch for a while, or clock in?”

Hell, some days I don’t know what day it is.

Someone else had fucked off for the day, so she gratefully - and laughing - told me to just clock in.

I end up having to check almost every day.

This is why several of my clocks have the day of the week and the date included in the display, and I chose them FOR that level of detail.

Doing laundry and putting it away in the same day? Aren’t you the overachiever today!!!

When I do the laundry, the last load is towels and they usually end up sitting in the dryer for a day or so because who cares if the towels are wrinkled?

Great news about the vet taking Cerby, sari. I know it was breaking your heart and you worked so hard with him, but it wasn’t working out and the entire family was upset. Cerby is with someone who knows all about his issues, hopefully he will settle down away from Ripple. (I’m wondering if the cancer drugs were what was causing the issue because the cancer was around for a while, the drugs are new.)

I’m sorry for your loss. She had a good run.

You just made me realize we do not have any wall clocks. I don’t think hubs and I have ever hung up a wall clock even though I had one of those tail wagging cat clocks when I was single. Maybe I should get another one…

Ouch, but not really horrible considering how expensive that sort of thing has gotten.

A couple of days ago, hubs noticed that the water tap on the patio was leaking so the plumber came out today. Of course it was more expensive than we had expected but at least it is fixed now.

My new doctor had written some lab and imaging orders, so I figured that if I had to get up early for the plumber as well as not having water for a couple of hours, I should go to town and get everything done cause some of it was fasting.

I got the bloodwork done and went to Denny’s for burnt coffee and the worse eggs benedict I’ve ever had. I haven’t been to a Denny’s for years and had no idea how badly they had gone downhill.

Both the lab and the imaging place offered to help me set up an online portal so I could see the results of everything as soon as they were available instead of waiting for my doctor to explain them. That was a hard no. I wouldn’t know what they meant, so I would ask Dr. Google and scare myself for a couple of weeks.

shoe it is very nice that you put the edible food somewhere for the homeless to find. You treated that poor man like a human being and he probably was more thankful for that than for the water.

I also did a good deed today. As I was pulling out of my parking spot while leaving the imaging place, I saw a pair of glasses on the blacktop. Someone was right behind me and a car was coming towards me so I told myself that someone else would see them and turn them in. That lasted for long enough to get out of the way so I could turn back around and rescue the glasses. They didn’t look to be grocery store glasses, they looked like something someone paid good money for, so I was happy I saved them from being run over.

My mother got towels in the laundry soap and collected glasses when she filled up her car. I saved bubblegum cartoons and sent them off for prizes. Once in a while I’d get something good!

shoe, you is good people.

Thank you for this reminder >boo toddles off to reset the timer for the living room light so she doesn’t fall over a cat on middle of the night runs to pee<. Hope I can remember why I’m there by the time I get to the timer. Chances are about 50/50.

My vote as well.

You need another one! A black one like GG. Do it quick!

shoe , you is good people.

I think so too.

YES!!!

I told hubs that I was going to order one and he said that the easiest way to get time to fly in this house would be to put that on the wall for Gormless to go after.

Dangit. I hate it when he’s right like that. GG is going to settle down soon, he’s almost two.

The GG excitement for the day was hubs putting a couple of gallons of water into a bucket (in case it was needed for flushing) and carrying it to the bathroom and leaving it on the floor with the door wide open. GG splashed water all over the place and then dumped the bucket so he had more water on the floor to roll in.

and in honor of Pi Day,:
[TMI]A human anus can be stretched to 7 inches without damage.
A raccon can squeeze into a 4 inch space.
Therefore:
Since the area of a circle is pi r squared, a 4 inch raccoon has a cross sectional area of 39.478 sq. in. A 7 inch anus, by contrast, has a cross section of 120.903 sq. in., meaning a standard issue ass can actually accommodate 3.06 raccoons.

I have one of those. It’s always 52 minutes fast.

It wasn’t whining, it was venting over an immpossible situation. {{{{sari and family}}}}

And more {{{{{{ }}}}}} from me.

You need a kitten cause you have way too much time on your hands nowadays!!!

And I’m, of course, as usual, going to get all contrary here  , and speak up for the adult dogs/cats whose adoption odds aren’t as good as the adorable baby puppies/kittens, and who’ve managed housebreaking and settled down a bit.

Not in this case. They won’t keep him busy enough.

Although, maybe he should get a kitten and an adult dog. The dog would get him out walking again and the kitten would have another target. (I do agree with you about older critters. We had already agreed to not adopt young critters again but then I got mad at my covidiot husband and bought a kitten.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.

Both Maggie Wonderbeagle and Gordie didn’t settle down until age 12.

More or less the plan, depending on what’s in the discount cat bin.

Morning, mumpers! It’s 3c/38f with a predicted high of 7c/45f and cloudy. Looks about right from what I can see. Weather app says “Do we talk about the weather because we have nothing else in fucking common?” No, we do that because we’re mumpers!

flyboy I’m sorry for your loss, your aunt had a very good run there.

{{{{{sari}}}}} You did your best for Cerby, you know it was a bad situation from the start and you were taking on a dog everyone else wrote off as a lost cause. You’ve made a massive difference to his life, and hopefully the vet will be able to give him another chance. You have nothing to feel guilty for, you did way more than most people would.

Moooom glad to hear MIL got to her destination safely too, even after being lost in a parking garage.

shoe you’re such a good person!

I have the day off work today, I had one day left from annual leave I’d carried over from last year and that has to be used by the end of March. I debated taking the day off on my birthday but decided there wasn’t any point 'cos I had nothing in particular to do. Last night we went out to see some bands, so I knew it would be a later one than usual for a Tuesday, so I took today off. Good thing too, Whisper has been totally off his food and is going to see the vet in about an hour’s time. He looks very sorry for himself and has been doing some pitiful miaowing this morning. Hopefully it’s nothing more serious than an infection and we’ll be home with anti-biotics and whatnot to have him bouncing back quickly. Poor little sausage looks proper poorly.

I need to go to the bank to deposit a cheque today too, I used to do that on Saturday when we went to do errands but they cut their opening times and now I can’t make it early enough for that. So another good use of a day off. And it’s pub night with my friends tonight too.

Just time for some more tea before I have to go and defrost the car as well, it won’t take long and it’s not a long drive to the vets either. I hope they can make poor Whisper feel better quickly.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 34 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 63 and N.O.S. for the day. The big item on the agenda is to procure provisions. We shall wait until later in the mornin’ and also procure fried chikin N.O.L.s from the Pubic Sto’ deli for today’s main feed. The usual sloth and general overall uselessness is also on tap for the day.

I always feel a little stabby on March 15th.

Shoe good for you for what you do with the food and double good on you for bein’ so nice to the homeless guy.

JtC good for you for rescuin’ the glasses. I’m glad GG got to have a good time playin’ in water.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas and bother, I suppose I must needs purtify and don atire acceptable for bein’ amongst the great unwashed. I suffer so!

Happy Hump Day and Ides of March Y’all!

The Denny’s in Waldorf (the closest one to us) is hit or miss. We don’t go regularly, but sometimes, FCD gets a hankerin’. Sometimes it’s pretty good, others, it’s slow and barely mediocre. Dunno if it’s a management issue or a staff turnover issue or a phase of the moon issue.

My mom had a set of cookbooks that she got one at a time from the grocery store for buying $XX amount of groceries a week - then the cookbooks were like a quarter each or something. It looked like a little set of encyclopedias in the kitchen and it got a lot of use. Mom had to learn to cook after she married (my grandmother didn’t want help in her kitchen) and the cookbooks were well-used. These days, Mom just bookmarks recipes and prints them out as she needs them. And she became a good enough cook that she made a bit of a living as a caterer for some years.

MetalMouse - we have had a bird nest over our front door for the last 2 years, and like you, we almost never use that door, so we just let it stay. Which meant when I finally decided to clear it away, not only was there the mess of the nest, but lots of bird poop on that area of the porch. Still, if a bird comes back, we’ll just leave it in peace.

{{{sari}}} - Cerby obviously needed more than you were able to provide. And honestly, you gave him far more than I would have, tho I am an old grouch.

Another gawd-awful night. I crashed early, then woke less than 3 hours later to pee and could not fall back to sleep. So I’d read a little, and when the eyes got heavy, I’d put the tablet down. Then my stoopit brain would go into overdrive about something, so I’d take up the tablet again… this went on till after 3. I finally fell back to sleep, and FCD woke me about 10 minutes before my alarm. It’s gonna be a long day.

The terlit repair didn’t take - it appears we got a bad replacement unit. Part of why I couldn’t sleep is I was drafting an email to the manufacturer. Since I bought it at Lowe’s, I can look in my purchase history and provide specific info. But I’m still going to have to get another set of innards, dammit. I’m hoping to get a coupon for a new set from American Standard. We shall see.

Poor ol’ Taz is getting bonier and bonier. He’s such a geezer - by my reckoning, he’ll be 18 this summer, if he lives that long. I found some gooshy food in the pantry and he actually ate some! I don’t expect it’ll be a fountain of youth, but at least it’ll give him a treat in his decline. This is the worst part of having critters. :frowning:

Happy Wednesday anyway!

Sorry to hear of your aunt there Johnny. My aged MIL made it to 96 years 8 months. Seems to be a bit of a barrier near there.

FCM it seems you can’t buy a break. Don’t forget that tablets emit blue light that causes the brain to go into wake-up-it’s-morning mode. Far better to read a yellowed paperback book by a dimmed yellow-hued incandescent light. Remember what those two things are? I still do. Barely.

Now on Wed morning I’ve been up a couple of hours. Sunrise was a few minutes ago. And coffee is going down nicely. It was a bit cool to sit outside pre-dawn, but it promises to be a nice day.

Hearing aids went well yesterday and I have loaners of a model akin to what I ordered which should be delivered next week-ish. Just bring money. Ouch! The tech said a bunch of progress as been made in noise reduction, so you should experience less crowd noise in a crowded room and more of who you’re talking to. The early returns are that he is right. The improvement isn’t everything one could hope for, but it’s a bunch better than it was with the old ones.

This morning is my semi-annual well-baby visit w my PCP. Not much medical to discuss w her, but we’re good friends, so it’ll be an excuse for a social visit if nothing else. Once I know I’m a well baby, the next stop is the groc store for a few things. I know, I know: Life in the Fast Lane.

Pretty soon I’m going to have to knock off Doping and get clean & fed. But not yet.

Best of luck to all the humper-mumpers here on Hump day. My workweek starts tomorrow.

I’ve heard that, but if it’s true, why do I literally fall asleep while reading on my tablet? Seriously - whether in my recliner on a quiet afternoon or under the comforter propped up on my pillows, I’ve often jerked awake when the tablet falls out of my hands. In any event, turning on a light isn’t an option with spousal unit sleeping beside me.

OK, Toddler has arrived.
