40 years ago this past Friday, the longest-running release in film history opened in the United Kingdom at Rialto Theater; none other than The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
In that vein, & in light of the announcement made at the end of the last MMP, I offer a jump to the left & a toast to VBob, Vkid, & FDil.
Pre-hijack question - when do you want to time warp to, & why?
I had three non-negotiable requests when we got married, otherwise I could roll with just about anything: 1) two shots of tequila at my place at the reception awaiting me; 2) under NO circumstances was the DJ to play the Hokey Pokey, and 3) the Time Warp was to be played early on. I have the video of me, him, the whole wedding party, and half the guests doing the Pelvic Thrust
Morning, mumpers! I have a few things I’d like a do-over for, but that would probably involve a lot of time-warping so I guess I’ll just make the best of it.
Nice weekend, too short and now I’m back at irk. There are only three of us in this week and it’s the start of re-sit exams so no doubt there will be the usual daily crisis.
I’d time warp back to the first few months of our marriage and NOT buy the house on the lake. We were so dumb!! We both knew we were getting out of the Navy and we knew the house was out of our budget, but we really really wanted it, so we kinda fibbed about our future plans and got the mortgage. I should mention this was early 1983 when mortgages leapt in the 12-13% range.
If we’d stayed in the cheap little 2-bedroom triplex for a little longer, our lives would have been so different. Plus I wouldn’t have lost my first wedding band and we wouldn’t have bought that piece-of-crap pickup and, just maybe, we’d have had a smarter budget with a savings account and everything.
Yep, our first year or so was full of dumb. Plus when we sold that house about 2 years later, we had to PAY around $2K at closing!!! That one do-over would have made such a huge difference in our life. Oh well. It all worked out in the end.
Congrats, BBBobbio!! I kinda sorta guessed what your secret was, but I’m SMRT! Altho it also occurred to me that you might have been offered a dream job where you wanted to live and all that.
Today’s supposed to be a really hot one. I’m thinking I should do a run to the convenience center when it opens. I’ve also got to water my houseplants, and I should run the vacuum, just for giggles. And some time this week, I need to get a watermelon to take to my sister’s orgy on Saturday.
Oh, yeah, I picked up my check at the little store yesterday - it was a biggie - $70!! That amounts to a profit (if you don’t count my time) of about $50 - mostly because the biggest seller was a monster pot that I made in class, so I didn’t directly pay for the clay and glaze and firing…
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up, purtified, caffeinated, so no YAWN. 'Tis 75 Amurrkin out with a predicted high of 91 and rain/tstorms/apocalypse this afternoon. We shall see. As soon as OYKW is purtified we shall consume brekkie at Pearly’s. Then I get to head south and spend my irkday in one county where I must monitor four sites. Rah.
BBBobbio congrats to the Vkid and FDIL!
OK, that’s all I got. I rear rumblin’s from the bedroom that indicate OYKW is ready to venture forth.
8th grade, shortly after my bat mitzvah, when I ended almost every lunch with a jelly donut and and ice cream sandwich
Summer of '77 when I first met the Asshat
Thanksgiving '79 thru March '81 while my sister was dying, and I did everything to distance myself from the situation short of moving to another state
Fall '98 when I was first put on steroids and I made no effort to keep the weight off when the appetite stimulant effect kicked in
late '99/early '00 when I should have remodeled the house the way I envisioned in '12 - think of all the rent I could have collected on a 3BR apartment in a private house
oh, the heck with it.
In honor of the 40th Anniversary of a movie I have never watched (except for bits and pieces), I offer my 34th Anniversary on the job for the U.S. Dept. of Defense (civilian). One more year to go, and I leave with 35 years of (more or less) faithful service and a nice retirement check.
Now I have to start checking out volunteer activities (FCM has a nice rant on that in the BBQ pit). Don’t plan to sit around the house all day (well, maybe for a few days…)
Got the lawn mowed Sunday, good thing as it has been raining all morning and we’re due to get rain all week. Also changed the air filter and did 3 loads of laundry, which makes me a veritable whirlwind compared to most Sundays.
Bobbio, congrats, do wonder about the “F” in FDiL. “Fated” or “Fun” or “Fabulous”?
Long as I’m asking, Swampy, who is OYKW? I am divided between son/daughter/wife/husband/lover/cousin/Alien from Epsilon Erandi VI?
