pumpkin pie for breakies. there were some left overs from pi day.

hopefully cerby does well in his third chance.

Reasonably long heave, and since it started early, I got out early. I had breakfast at Bojangles to kill time till Aldi opened. Nap time!

That it is

“Denny’s is for people who don’t know how to fight.”

I tested COVID-negative this morning!
Which is good because I have to drive Mrs W to the airport in about 20 minutes, and now I can stop for an errand or two on the way home. Don’t plan to do much while she’s gone though; I still feel like I need rest. But it’s a good feeling to be officially virus-free!

Then I’ve got some laundry to launder, and if the new dresser arrives as scheduled I’ll put it together this afternoon. Exciting times!

Yeah, that part never gets easier.

Is that a subtle Waffle House reference?

Morning all. Slept in until after 8a today, so slowly getting around to doing stuff. Need to make a quick trip to Wal-Mart and do my swimming-n-sauna this afternoon. Outside of getting the garbage and recyclables out to the curb this evening, nothing much else on the agenda. Near 60F today and 70F tomorrow, so more springlike.

I don’t think it’s all that subtle…

{{FCM}}, hoping that if it is Taz’s time, he has a peaceful passing. And thanks for the feedback on the nest–will have to watch it for cleaning. Good luck with toilet repair, take 2.

LSL, glad to hear the hearing aids are working good; I really need to look into that, but being a bit set in my ways, still have a case of the 'Don’t wannas". One of these days…

You too?

boo fae, hope Whisper gets too feeling better.

OK, onward into the day. Take care all.

Woohoo, June colonoscopy is booked. My insurance only pays for the gallons o’ ick prep, but since I’m taking Ozempic (nausea, gastric slowing), the gastro’s office is going to score me a sample pack of Sutab instead.

Another wind advisory today, with more gusts of up to 50 mph. It’s supposed to calm down this afternoon, though, which is good because I have plans this evening. I’d go regardless, but it’s going to be cold enough in DC without the windchill (or should I say “galechill”)!

I have a metal peacock sculpture-thingy out back that I got on a whim at Target a loooong time ago, and all year I’ve been using it to hold down the cover that’s on the patio table/chairs: it was actually getting blown around yesterday (!), so last night I put Arthur (yes I named it) in the laundry room and moved the big metal hose-holder from the patio to the top of the table. I may just leave things like that until I’m able to start using the table/chairs again.

One of the local grocery chains carry’s Boar’s Head brand deli products, including pre-made sandwiches, wraps, and salads. I’m a fan of their chicken caesar wrap. If I’m going to that particular chain (as I did yesterday) I try to go around lunchtime (as I did yesterday), in the hopes that there will still be a wrap available: there were two on the shelf, both with “best by 3/15” dates, and I’m looking forward to having the second one for lunch today (plus it seems appropriate)! I’ll be running more errands near two locations of that particular chain at lunchtime tomorrow, so I might just stop at one and try for a caesar wrap hat trick.

I’m also looking forward to this evening’s plans: a terrific jazz singer who I’ve known since she was in high school (now in her late 20s/early 30s and living in NYC) is having an album release show at the iconic Blues Alley. I already bought the digital album from Bandcamp, but she’s going to have vinyl available tonight and I’m planning to buy an actual record! A few years ago I dusted off my old vinyl collection and bought a record player, but I hardly ever use it. It’ll be nice to fire it up again. And although the venue’s food is nothing special they make a respectable steak and potatoes, and since I don’t cook/never have that at home it will be a yummy treat.

What doggio said. :people_hugging:

I hope so, too! :crossed_fingers:

It’s been quite a while since I shared a bed with someone, but one of the things I love about my Kindle is the backlight: I really like that I don’t need to turn on a light in order to read at night (lights tend to keep me awake). And the brightness level is adjustable, so the text is easily readable even in direct sunlight.

Finished the morning’s exercise class. Glad to be back in that groove.

Nice sunny lull before the next snow front moves in tomorrow. The Overlook’s kitchen is putting on a St. Paddy’s day lunch today for all the geezers. I guess we’re going.

Looked up my prospective knee surgeon online. He has 4.9/5 stars from 500 patients, so I guess he’s competent. He’s also not 80 years old and still using a hammer and chisel, so that’s encouraging. He has the unfortunate last name of “Tuttle”; unfortunate because I used to know a guy in the military with that name who was a total fuckup. Hard to shake those associations.

Remember the MAS*H episode where Hawkeye and Trapper invented John Tuttle? Hope he isn’t your ortho!

Indeed. :frowning:

Worst service I ever had was at a Waffle House – so bad that we’re not giving them a second chance.

We seem to be having February winds and March showers in our wee corner of the country this year.

Because I can’t afford an oil change, new brake pads, new wipers.
Ignore the fact that I can’t afford a new engine, new brake rotors, an accident because I can’t see.

Went once, never again.
“Could I get some butter for my waffle please?”
“Why would you want butter on a waffle?”

I know that Julius Caesar died on the 15th of March, but at least he died surrounded by his friends.

Sorry about Whisper and Taz. Hope they get better.

Denny’s offended me 50+ years ago and I haven’t been back since. I don’t think I’ve ever been to a Waffle House.

I got around to resetting the wall clock yesterday. I should have put a new battery in it while I had it down. It’s 10 minutes slow already.

Nothing else to report.

excellent.

I like Waffle House food. Back in my misspent youth, I would go there for a late-night meal after drinking if there was one nearby. Bad service is kinda par for the course at 3 am.

These days, it’s my go-to breakfast spot when I’m traveling in the south. At 9 or 10 am the staff is friendlier and more competent, and the clientele more sane.

Howdy Y’all! We procured provisions, had fried chikin N.O.L.s, and have achieved nappage. 'Tis N.O.S. but coolish out. However, I think we shall day drink out on the back porch in a bit. Plus there’s still pee-kahn pie to eat. Life is good in swampland.

I have never eaten at a Denny’s. There were not any around where I grew up and as an adult, the desire/opportunity has never been there. Am I deprived? I do kinda sorta like Waffle House. I mean, I don’t expect a gourmet delight when I go, so I’ve never been disappointed.

Every year there are swallow’s nests under the eaves of the Parish hall. I suspect they may be there now or will show up shortly. I’ve always thought it kinda cool they nest there. We leave 'em be and clean it all up when they leave. Psalm 84:3: Even the sparrow has found a home, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may have her young - a place near your altar, O Lord Almighty, my King and my God.

Stealing that!
