Duct tape floats - spinning and weaving - turkey legs - a State Fair MMP

Oh, and I had a weird dream during yesterday’s siesta and it’s all y’all’s fault. Well, Boo and swampy mostly.

Datapoint the first: in Spain there is something called el toro de fuego, “a bull on fire”. In most locations said bull isn’t a real one; in places where it’s a real one, the poor thing gets sparklers tied to his horns before letting him loose on the people, so he’s more scared and angrier than usual. Artificial ones are a box worn by a guy, so there’s both no animal being tortured and less danger of someone being run over; you can still have someone with minor burns but no trampling (I am not going to delve into my opinions about people who’ll tie sparklers to an animal and set them on fire, let’s just say they’re not positive). In the town where I grew up, the bull is a box and music is provided by the town’s band, who are in a “kiosk” in the center of the square.

Datapoint the second: swampy is one very flaming bear.

Datapoint the third: Boo had threatened with siccin’ swampy on me.

Datapoint the fourth: there is one (1) actual Ursus-type bear that lives in Navarre, a male called Camille who is often featured in cartoons in local newspapers.

So I dreamed that I was “back home” taking part in a “bear on fire” game, with a bear that looked like Camille’s cartoons only in 3D, very colorful sparks, Dopers in red’n’whites running or standing around, and music being provided from the kiosk by Bear Force One, the dude from It’s OK To Be Gay, Rafaella Carrá, Cher, María Jiménez and other extremely-discreet dressers (but not that Icelandic chick with the swan, her songs aren’t fun enough even if her dresses would qualify her).

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’. Havin’ lunch with a friend I haven’t seen in a while today and lookin’ forward to that.

Nava did you just accuse me of bein’ a flamer? :dubious:  Also, your dream is just the sort of thing I’d imagine a big MumpFest would be like.

Ruble did you and doggio frisk each other for axes?

Oooh! Do I get to wear the freaky swan dress?

If Ruble and DogBut host the Mumpfest, I think it would be much more the typical heavy metal vomit party.

Good morning everyone. I am WIDE awake. I don’t know why.

Happy Anniversary to ems and Mr. Ems. Time sure does fly.

Also, a very happy birthday to Dotty!

We’re supposed to go out to dinner tonight with some of our friends. One of those friends wants to go somewhere we can make wise (low fat) choices regarding our meals. She’s trying to lose weight before we go to Hawaii. I don’t know why, she looks fantastic. However, I don’t mind making a wise choice myself. I still need to lose weight before heading over there.

I think I need to brew myself some coffee.

I’m awake!

Happy anniversary emssses!

Nice dream, Nava.

Hopefully my hand won’t be too ouchy today so I can work on fork stuff. Wish I was in Pittsburgh… Now I’m hoping for tomorrow. If it’s not tomorrow, then it won’t be this week which means I’ll miss out on my lifelong dream of meeting doggio. :frowning:

Dibs on María Jiménez’ peacock-feathers number.

I’s hongry! Good thing we’re meetin’ at eleven for an early lunch. I’d waste away to nuttin’ if it wasn’t until noon!

I dare say you’d be better looking in one than the Icelandic chick…

Happy anniversaries to those who are having 'em!

I’m so tired this morning, but with no good reason to be. Meh. I’m supposed to go out to a piano bar/open mic tonight: I’ll see if I can get a second wind by the end of the day. Actually, technically it would be my first wind. grin

My mom is right next door, in Ferndale. (She uses “Ferndale” in her mailing address: she thinks it sounds less redneck-y than “Glen Burnie.” ) When my brother and I were kids we used to frequently walk the railroad tracks – this was well before they were converted to light rail tracks – into Linthicum, to go to the five-and-dime and a place that had really good milkshakes.

I had a friend who lived in Brooklyn Park when we were in high school ('85-'89): it wasn’t all that great then.

Took him to my favorite watering hole for comedy night. Oh --------- and made him drink Wild Turkey, Straubs and Yuingling on top of the tequila he had already had. It seemed like the neighborly thing.

Nope -------- does that make his silence any more suspicious? :smack:

Oooooo - Ooooooo! Mr Kotter, Mr Kotter!!! I already have the perfect band picked out!!!

(pretty work safe)

(and no – its not the Electric Amish. But since the Indiana State ABATE Picnic Barry, Carl and Greaber rarely take booking suggestions from me)

ruble those videos are wrong on so many levels it almost makes 'em right.

Lunch was good and fun. We ate, we talked, we laughed. It was great just to carry on and catch up. Plus it’d been a while since I was in that particular restaurant and I’d forgotten how good the food is. YUM! I had a chicken fajita wrap thingy and we shared a hyuuuuuuge basket of onion rings. Plus he forced me, forced I say, to drink two Yuenglings.

Blah.

ETA: Kopek, that video is just not right…

I guess I forgot to check in this morning…

Deadlines LOOOOOOMING ove my head!!! AAAAGGGHHH!

In my grand tradition of dumping things in the MMP and never coming back…my coworker has been coughing and hacking horribly all week. He finally decided to go see a doctor today. Guess who has pneumonia! Guess who came back to work like it was nothing! I texted our boss, who is lunching right now. Somehow, I don’t think coming back to work when you have pneumonia is exactly appropriate.

Plus, even though my chances of getting sick are super-low, my sis-in-law is due in 2.5 weeks and damnit, I want to be perfectly healthy to see her and the baby. Having to stay away because I caught something from my coworker would suck.

**Taters **- would you believe I was thinking about **Dotty **this morning?!? What’s become of her? She’s been absent an awfully long time… Hope there’s no problems…

We wrapped up our stuff today about 1-ish. I had to stop on the way home to get cat food, but I was still home almost at my normal time, so yay for that! And it’s Weds, so we’re that much closer to Firday. So yay.

That’s all I’ve got for now. Maybe when my brain unwinds I’ll think of something clever or worth sharing - there’s a first time for everything, right??

Yeah, Dotty has been absent a long time. On FB she said something about house move almost being complete, so that maybe that’s why she’s been away so long.

I’ve managed to finish a couple of chores, but I’m not working really hard.:o

OK, never mind - I saw Dotty’s post from when I was on vacation. Good to know she’s doing well. I am much relieved.

Home safe and sound!

He seems no worse for the experience. A little slow and tired, maybe. The first thing he did was go out back through the doggie door and check out his territory.

Lucy and Ernie were very happy to see him! No sign of the Sisters yet, thank Og. I printed out two set of papers - one for them, one for the cops if they show up.

We have to keep him somewhat calm, so he doesn’t pull his incision. He doesn’t have stitches, they use water soluble glue now, so no bath for two weeks. He’s not licking the site, so no E-collar.

Life is good. Dipsey’s home.

Decided to go to Evening Prayer service at church at the last minute. I’m glad I did. It was a nice service and must have been what I needed cause I’m all mellow right now. Not that I was all harsh before, just all nice and mellow and peaceful like.

And on that note… Nitey Nite Y’all!

ETA: Yay for Dipsey bein’ home!
