It depends on the circumstances. But if you get your name brand TP by(worst case)running into the CVS and grabbing a 4 pack every time vs watching for a good sale it can be the difference of 60 cents vs 15 cents per “roll equivalent” they all use now. And if like me you buy 200-300 rolls equivalent at a time, the difference there is $120-$180 dollars vs $30-$45. Now buying Walmart or Meijer not on sale is still going to be much cheaper than the CVS 4 pack strategy, but will still likely hit $60-$70 or so.
10 - 100
When we get down to about 10, another 48. Sometimes we buy double for one reason or another, so instead of 10 in the house and 48 in the garage, it’s 24 in the house and 72 in the garage.
We buy a block from Costco. So however many are in there. I think we have like 30 rolls left, including those stashed in bathrooms but not in use. I took an inventory yesterday due to the news about hoarders.
I usually buy a monster pack from CostCo. It’s cheaper and better quality than the supermarkets offer. I’ll buy another when we’re down to 12 rolls (6 for the kids, 6 for us). Running out of toilet paper is inconvenient to say the least.
I don’t have a ton of storage space.
I generally buy 6 packs of Charmin mega rolls when they go on sale for $6. I’ll buy one or two packs.
I also keep a cheap four pack of generic paper on case I run out of Charmin.
If I had more storage space I’d probably buy more, but Charmin goes on salve often enough that I don’t need to plan when I buy it.
We get 6-monthly deliveries from theselovely people (their website is kinda fun in itself even if you’re outside their delivery area). So somewhere in the zero to 48 zone, but right now closer to 48
Wha?
Is there some dude on the corner selling out of his trunk?
I have the storage space so I buy it when it goes on sale & look for more when it gets lower. I also keep a spare package (24 rolls equivalent) just in case there isn’t a good sale.
ETA: one fell off the shelf so there’s 2 x 24 down there. + the almost empty pack, + the 6-pack of quad rolls I got as part of the panic buying (see almost empty package) the other day. Yes, it was on sale.
I also bought 4 boxes of Kleenex but only two went into storage as two managed to empty at the same time thru normal, not-sick usage.
Shit, a guy could have a pretty good weekend in Vegas with all that stuff.
The Mrs. and I have 7 bathrooms in our house (yes, we’re bathroom hoarders) and those each need to be stocked with a roll plus 2 backups at all times, so we usually have the equivalent of at least 2 twelve-packs of TP at any one time.
The master bath was fitted with a bidet seat toilet sometime back, cutting our TP consumption down drastically.
I buy the biggest package they have then wait until there are only a few left before I buy more. So it depends where I am in the cycle.
I buy a 36-roll package every few months. I actually picked one up about three weeks ago.
Please tell me you rotate their use by what day of the week it is.
Well… let’s see. I can’t remember the last time I bought toilet paper, so I hope I’m somewhat set for the new post-apocolyptic TP-based economy. goes out to count Looks like we have 19 rolls of toilet paper in the house. That is a hell of a lot more than I would have guessed. My mother in law was recently in town, so she must have stocked up. That, combined with a spray bidet, and I think we’re set for a good while.
This is more my usual status. Buy whatever the biggest pack is (I guess 36), and then buy another one when I’m down to the last 2 or 3 rolls. Or sometimes when I realize we’re completely out. Hence my surprise at all the toilet paper in the house. It had been awhile since I bought one of those packs, so I legitimately thought we might actually be down to our last couple of rolls. Nope. Nineteen rolls. Now to go sell them for mucho dinero on eBay! j/k
Same. We buy the big, 48-roll package of Marathon brand from Costco and make a note to restock when we get down to 6 or 8 rolls. We have one bathroom, 2 adults and 2 teen boys in the house. One roll will last us 2-4 days.
When the news of the TP shortage began to percolate through social media, I happened to be going by my local Walgreens that evening. Out of curiosity I went and checked their TP supply and they had plenty, so I picked up a couple of 12-packs of Charmin cuz why not. I just went and counted, we have 20 rolls of the Marathon brand left and the two packages of unopened Charmin, plus a 6-pack of some unknown brand in the back of the closet that I was unaware of. Weird. So I guess we have at least… 100 days of TP stocked. We’ll be going out of town this weekend so that’s 2 days without TP use at home.
I have two brand new, unused 8oz bottles of Purell hand sanitizer. I’ve legit wondered how much they’d fetch from listing on Ebay or craigslist.
7? for how many people? how many bedrooms does this house have?
Now that the kids have moved out, just us two live here. And there’s one bathroom for every bedroom, plus a half bath off the master kitchen.
It’s more house than we need, but it’s on the family property where I was born, and it’s comfy, and it’s paid for. It’s always been home, even when I lived elsewhere for years at a time, and when I inherited it (far too soon, tragically), we moved in and raised our kids here (who also intimately knew the home all their lives). Well worth it, even tho the TP costs have been high. ![]()
I haven’t bought any in ten years, maybe 15. There are other, better ways to clean. I never buy any paper products.
Probably don’t own a TV either, I’m guessing.
