Two in the household. I’ll leave it until we get down to four or so rolls, then buy another 24-pack, usually.
Two person household; we normally keep a 30 roll pack in reserve while using another 30 roll pack. Right now we’re near the end of a 30 roll pack and about to open the reserve pack but have been unable to buy a new reserve pack (no TP at Costco when we were there either last week in a somewhat crowded store or today in a claustrophobic mob scene, cart grid lock). I don’t tally exactly how long a 30 roll pack lasts but it’s a few months so no real problem now, even allowing for giving our grown kids who live nearby a few rolls if they run out.
makes sense.
*I’ve been a long time lurker here and you’ve always struck me as a very reasonable, very intelligent, not flashy person. I of course don’t know if the not flashy part is accurate or not, but you can’t help but paint a picture in your mind of someone. so no different than I would’nt have thought you to be a Ferrari is my daily driver guy, I was having a hard time picturing you as a I require a 7 bathroom house guy.
you don’t drive a Ferrari do you?
We buy the Costco giant package. Spread those out among the 5 toilets in the house. Then when a toilet runs out, we raid the other toilets until there is about 1 roll left in the house, then go buy another Costco mega package.
SEattle went thru the whording phase about 2 weeks ago. Costco keeps getting restocked so the whorders are satiated and the shelves are pretty much full with signs saying “limit of 4 mega packages per person”.
Just to explain, we lived in small flats in Asia for 20 years. Moved to the Seattle burbs and built a dream house. I really put my foot down so it didn’t go over 4000 sf (not including the garage). There are 4 1/2 bathrooms. Will downsize after the divorce is final as the 2 remaining twins and I don’t “need” nearly this much space.
That said, now that all the schools in greater Seattle have shuttered until 24 April, my company has mandated work from home, and that my in process to be ex wife and I are both in the same dwelling, it’s nice having all these rooms so we can spread out and not be in each other’s hair.
I try to keep 48 on hand, which is about what we have now. Earthquake preparedness.
The pack I bought (30 pack) was marked as normally 0.94 per roll and on sale as 0.58 per roll. That’s a savings of 0.36 per roll, so 10.80 for the entire package, which will last us about 10 weeks, maybe less.
All prices in CHF (Swiss Francs).
I usually buy a big package (24 or 36 of Scott). I buy more when I’m down to maybe a half-dozen rolls.
Yeah, kind of, depending on usage. Women use more. It can add up.
I think even CVS is cheaper(and more comfortable) than wiping your ass with diamonds of any grade however.
I usuusally keep 4 12 packs at hand. A 3 month supply if I’m careful.
My current car is a 2008 Lexus ES 350 (their “intro to luxury” series), which I bought used when it had 90K miles on it. I tend to buy my autos used and run up the mileage until they no longer function. I ran my previous one up to over 340K before I hit a deer. I’ve owned a NEW car exactly once in my life, long ago. I learned my lesson then; don’t buy new cars!
I did own a DeLorean for a while, and a Boeing Stearman N2S3, both inherited with the house and property. They were fun but didn’t fit my lifestyle so got sold off.
Basically I’m like some english gentry: Huge lands and home, passed down to me through 6 generations before me. It’s eclectic, comfy, expensive to heat and maintain, but I can’t bring myself to leave it. It’s a legacy from my parents who built their dream home on the family property, including ALL the bells and whistles they ever dreamt of. Maintaining it all takes more cash than I care to spend, but it hasn’t impoverished us quite yet.
The septic system is an engineering marvel in order to maintain all 7 bathrooms on property on sandy soil by a lake. It’s all very charming and quirky, just as I aspire to be.
And I’m sure that’s more than anyone wanted to know about the situation, in a thread about toilet paper.
**Qadgop **- you forgot one important detail - single or two-ply??
He doesn’t require seven bathrooms, he inherited seven bathrooms.
Having seen Mercotan Manor in person I can say that while it does look like a very nice house from the entrance you would not guess, standing at the front door, it’s rambling pan-dimensional nature. I suspect some Time Lord engineering as I’m not convinced inside and outside are the same size. Qadgop has also been accused of having a gateway to Narnia inside.
I blame the high density of Tolkien Mythos books in the library(s) - it may have had odd occult side effects.
Oh, wait, the topic question:
For a couple of years I’ve been giving a friend of mine, who owns a Sam’s Club membership, $50 to pick up paper good for me. It’s been a money saver and I discovered I do have space to store it.
So… in January I have about a year’s supply.
In December I might be down to 4 rolls.
Fortuitous, for me, that I am currently abundantly supplied. So much so I have given some to people I know who were out and having trouble obtaining more. Basically, I’m being an anti-hoarder. So I have about six months worth right now instead of what would usually be nine months.

My normal stash is between 8 and 20 2-ply rolls. I buy 12-packs and then when the last one gets down to 8 I feel free to get another one. Right now I have 9 which should last me several months. I’m not gonna lie though if I see some TP at a not outrageous price I’m going to pick up another case because it’s almost to the point where I’d pick it up anyway.
Gee, Diamond Boy is persistent.
Thankfully I had a 12 pack just stashed in the car so I didn’t have to pick up any more and decided to leave it for people who need it more, although 3 partly used 12-packs wouldn’t be terribly excessive since ever since I evacuated for a hurricane a few years ago and the rest areas didn’t have any TP, and I luckily had some in my car completely by mistake and brought a couple rolls in for me and others to use, I try to keep some in my car, and I hopefully will go on a trip out west in a month and a half and so definitely want it in case of being in an isolated campground that has run out, but I did remove one roll and left it in my car in case I forget to put some back.
One Sam’s warehouse bundle. 48 rolls I think.
And since we’re down to the last dozen it’s time to start checking in to see when they restock. Normally I’d wait till we were down to the last 2 rolls.
Off topic but my current car is a 2012 es 350.
It’s not a bad car but the seats are so damn uncomfortable. I get both back and sciatica pain from it. I got a couple aftermarket cushions that mostly took care of the issue but I may end up selling it due to this issue.
Which is sad, being a lexus it’ll probably last me 300k miles. I hate to get rid of a reliable car but it is what it is.
If I ever come into decent money maybe a used ls would be better. I think a 8 year old model is around 16k if you shop around and still has a decade of life left.
