We have a lot of storage space, and my wife likes to stock up when Costco has sales. I just went and checked our stash, and was surprised to discover that we have over 330 rolls.
For two people.
Just to emphasize: this is our normal everyday stash. We haven’t bought TP for several months.
I buy as I need it, so usually I have 4-6 rolls of normal single-ply in the bathroom. Once I’m down below 4 rolls, I’ll stick it on the shopping list. There are two of us in the house, but mostly t’other half works away from home half the week. Unlike most of the rest of the UK idiots, I have not stockpiled it and only happen to have a spare 4-pack which I did not buy, I brought it home from clearing out my late mother’s flat.
Before Coronapocalypse, we already had 40 rolls. We buy large packs from Sam’s Club, as well as paper towels and Kleenex. We didn’t buy any more. Might as well leave some for the hoarders.
I tend to have a lot on hand because most major brands are occasionally on sale at significant savings, like 50% off or even more, so for a bulk pack you may be talking $10 or even $15 savings or more. Having a lot on hand gives me a buffer to wait for the next sale before replenishing. Sadly, when the panic buying hit I was at a relatively low point with just 3 double-roll 12-packs and a half-pack of another. I was sure I had at least one mega-pack stashed away but I did not.
I’ve generally disliked the whole Walmart environment and experience, but after finding hand sanitizer at one Walmart this morning (I have NEVER seen anything disappearing off the shelves so fast!) and large jugs of my favorite liquid hand soap refills at another, I’m going to start checking them more often because I think the tremendous power they have over manufacturers gives them extra clout at being able to get stuff, especially household commodities that they sometimes buy in vast quantities and put on sale.
I don’t have a whole lot of space, and there’s just me in the flat, so normally I’ll keep one to three 4 packs in, as that’s what conveniently fits into the bottom shelf of the bathroom cupboard, and I’ll restock once I open the last packet.
I did fill the shelf last week, just before the panic hit, having figured it was coming. That should do me for a month or so at least.
