What DVDs are you wishing they would release, preferrably special editions?
I would like DVDs of the entire roster of the Coen brothers and David Lynch. Most notably, MILLER’S CROSSING, which is fantastic. But I wouldn’t like to hear too many director’s commentary from them. It would be too much like a magician explaing all his tricks. The BLOOD SIMPLE commentary was hilarious, but that’s about it.
I’d also love to see editions loaded with extras of UHF and RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD. I’ve heard that a studio was looking at Amazon requests for interest in UHF, but that may be false.
I also like the relatively new practice of putting television series out on DVD. Classics like FAWLTY TOWERS and THE SIMPSONS are great. Any series you wish they would release?
I would kill for a boxed set of Astarire / Rogers best movies:
Swing Time
Top Hat
The Gay Divorcee
Shall We Dance
The Story of Vernon and Irene Castle
The Gene Kelley / Judy Garland musicals:
For Me and My Gal
Summer Stock
The Pirate
Various others:
You’ll Never Get Rich (Fred Astaire and Rita Hayworth)
You Were Never Lovelier (Astaire and Hayworth)
Cover Girl (Kelly, Hayworth)
The Band Wagon (Astaire; has “That’s Entertainment”)
It’s Always Fair Weather (Kelly)
Silk Stockings (Astaire)
Mofo, you’re in luck on the UHF wish. Check Weird Al’s website www.weirdal.com and look in the latest news section. It’s been a few days since I last looked, but for about a month now, the notice has been up that he’s in the process of getting a UHF Special Edition with all the bells and whistles out. Supposed to be out early next year, so start saving your pennies now.
Now that they have done a special edition for STMP I want them to do a special edition for The rest of the Star Trek Films! I want it I want It I want it!!
Oh yeah and Omega Man and Soylent Green and The Incredible Hulk 2 hr Pilot (Beter have extras)
I put in a second vote for special edition Indiana Jones trilogy, but only if they put the proper effort into converting the video and soundtrack. Mmmmm…Dolby 5.1 Indie…
It’s being considered! Using CGI, the producers are hoping to re-do the meeting with “god” featuring the rock monolith monsters.
As to the OP:
Max Headroom complete
ALL of Twin Peaks (eps 1-7 on the way sans pilot)
Lost in Space (the show, that is)
Star Trek cartoon (got the laserdisc set)
Star Trek TOS in a season box set as opposed to 2 eps/disc
Bladerunner Special Edition like the Criterion LD
I want all the Schoolhouse Rocks (Grammar Rock, Multiplication Rock, America Rock, etc.) on DVD. It’d be even better if they were all on the same DVD with comments.
A two-disc, Special Edition of Kenneth Branagh’s Hamlet. I have the superlative Fox DVD of Julie Taymor’s film of Titus Andronicus, and something similar should be done for Hamlet. I also want new versions of Ian McKellen’s Richard III and Branagh’s Henry V with lots o’ extras, especially commentaries. Criterion also needs to release more Kurosawa, including Rashomon and Dodes’kaden.
I also want to say Amen to The Omega Man and Soylent Green, plus a new release of the out-of-print Director’s Cut of Dawn of the Dead. I also want Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Moulin Rouge, and the Buffy: The Musical episode.
And a Busby Berkeley boxed set would be heaven. The only BB DVD I’ve got is 42nd Street, but I’d love to get Gold Diggers of 1933, Footlight Parade, and Gold Diggers of 1935.
