I know these were already mentioned but I really really want Real Genius and Top Secret on dvd! I also want a Sealab 2021 collection (despite the fact that its a 15minute show and its still early in its first season). It would be awesome if Real Genius had a good commentary and extra scenes and all those goodies.
George Cukor’s The Women, whose absence from the DVD world is DRIVING ME FARGIN’ INSANE. A revival of the original Clare Boothe play is currently in previews on Broadway (with Isaac Mizrahi doing the costumes, could anything be better?), but I want my DVD! I want to be able to bookmark the scene at “Black’s” Fifth Avenue, with the hapless model repeating “Our-new-one-piece-lace-foundation-garment, zips-up-the-back-and-no-bones!” oblivious to the warfare between Joan Crawford and Norma Shearer. I want commentary on audience reaction to the fashion-show sequence, expensively shot in Technicolor (how that must have looked to just-scraping-by housewives in 1939!). I WANT FIFTEEN MINUTES OF REPEAT OF MARY BOLAND SIGHING “AH, L’AMOUR, L’AMOUR!”
Sadly, although an MGM release it’s now property of Warner Home Video, which has the most useless website in all creation. Goddammit, Mr. Levin, get off yer ass and get it transferred! NOW!
[sub]ok, i’m done now[/sub]
I also keep fantasizing that the camp masterpiece Kurotokage/Black Lizard will eventually make it to DVD. But that’ll be years, I’m afraid. It’s not even available on VHS right now.
Better news: the Hedwig DVD’s to be released in December.
P.C.U.
Indian Jones Trilogy
Man I love those movies.
Pulp Fiction: 2 disc Special Edition
I will show my wussy girlishness and 80’s upbringing by saying:
The Last Unicorn
ummm…Jem - all episodes
I know - yell at me for loving extremely bad animation, but it just reminds me of being young.
I also am holding out hope that Warner will actually be doing full season DVD box sets of Batman: The Animated Series, or whatever you want to call it - I mean everything, New Adventures, whatever. I don’t want to have to buy all the Columbia tapes. I’d also like them to do Superman, but that’s less of a fav.
Susan
The Mick reminded me that I hadn’t mentioned that masterpiece of gentle, camp surrealism…
The Adventures of Pete and Pete*
All the episodes. Please?
And furryman, I thought I was the only one that remembered the Flash Gordon cartoon fondly. Man, I used to watch that every Saturday morning.
ShibbOleth reminded me in this week’s West Wing thread, I’m waiting eagerly for them to put out the first and second seasons.
Plus, of course, the entire Coen brothers canon. As well as MST3K.
But major props to The Mick, because if they put out dvd’s of my favorite cartoons and other shows from my youth, I’d die. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Garfield and Friends, Clarissa Explains It All, Pete & Pete, Sonic the Hedgehog, The Super Mario Brothers Super Show, Batman: The Animated Series, Gargoyles, Saved By The Bell, Darkwing Duck…
…because I’m really mature like that.
koyaanisquatsi is available on DVD, it’ll set you back about $200, but I think its worth it (even if it doesn’t have any extras on it). I’d like to see:
1984
Until the End of the World
The Producers
Two Moon July
The Road to Wellville
Wizards
And all the Warner Bros. cartoons, plus Mighty Mouse.
Some of the MST3K shows are available on DVD. One weird thing is that they can be set up to show the movie in its original state. Probably the only case where a DVD is used to remove commentary.
And for a personal choice, I’m still waiting for the DVD release of Mr Vampire II.
Oh yeah, forgot about these:
Naked Lunch
Powisquaatsi
The Dead
Ulysses
James Joyces’ Women
Either my “find” button has failed me or no one has mentioned Strange Brew yet.
Damn! Forgot that one!
How about a “24” complete first season DVD set? That’d probably be the only way that I’d get to see the show, seeing as I’m on this board every time it’s on TV.
They had better make that…
Yo, Mikahw, check out this thread. Maybe Munch or I will be willing to send you copies of our tapes when we’re done.
There was a mini-series/parody of the Dynasy/Dallas-type of shows with Carol Burnett called “Fresno!” which followed her as the matriarch of a failing raisin empire. I would LOVE to see that again. It was only broadcast twice, and the second time they included an ill-timed and poor laugh track, so that’s the only copy I have. I wish I could get the real deal from the first showing on DVD. That’s my wish.
The Producers, uh, let’s see here, its a top Broadway show, been named to the AFI list of 100 funniest movies of the 20th Century and its not on DVD! WTF is up with that?
Forget it…maybe get the producers and directors on it but Val Kilmer would NEVER do commentary. The guy is a notoriously hard actor to put up with now a days (which is too bad…Chris from Real Genius is a absolute riot and one of my all time favorite characters). Its like trying to get Johnny Depp to talk about 21 Jumpstreet
Tape? How dare you mention VHS in my presence! Ack, I’m melting!
