I used to get up at 5:30 to be in the office by 7:00, so that I could, theoretically, leave at 4:00. Yeah, right! These days I usually head for bed in the middle of the 11:00 news (right after the weather report) and watch Colbert’s monologue from bed.
I usually have to get up a couple of times during the night, either due to my bladder, or the dogs bladders, or their imaginations, and thus tend to sleep in until around 9:00.
This being ‘retired’ is hard work, but somebody has to do it.
The only thing I have to do today is pay some bills. I have a number of projects that I might or might not do, but I am somewhat limited in what I am allowed to do, (doctor’s orders), so we’ll see.
I woke this morning at 445 but made coffee, walked the dog,fed the cat, lounged around and then showered and dressed arriving at irk at 0730. My old self would sleep until 8 ish and arrive around 0930 thus staying until 6 to get my required 8 1/2. I have a 32 mile commute which at the later time turns into nearly an hour. There is far less traffic earlier. Back in the day when I first started this job I came in even earlier. It only takes a few days to create a habit of waking early and getting to bed early and I can get a heck of a lot more done while it is quiet. If I wake early again in the morning I shall try to be here even earlier. I am lucky in that I can set my own hours. There will be days when I must stay til closing and there will be the rare weekend day I will have to irk but just changing it up so I can have an actual life will be a good thing. The hardest thing for me is going to bed earlier but that too is just a matter of a few days.
Tis Moanday again today for sure. Had folks lined up out the door. When that happens I will go out and answer questions and chit chat just to make myself known. Most of our customers are nice. I’d say at least 99.9% are nice.
Welcome TRC4941. Someone will be along to give you a nickname soon.
Mooooommmm Check your PM’s. Regarding FedEx next time go on twitter and give them hell. That gets their attention quick.
I made up some stuffed bell peppers and will cook them in the slow cooker tomorrow. Some will be for a friend who is undergoin’ chemo/radiation and her husband, and some will be tomorrow’s dindin. The friend’s sister (also a friend) has been coordinatin’ the makin’ of and also makin’ meals for them. I’ve done a couple other meals and since I know they like stuffed bell peppers thought that and some vegetative matter, some rolls and a dessert component, probably brownies, would be good.
Sunny I answered your PM. With the info I asked about I know I can find at least one local resource who can help from there.
Well, I now have a new Driver’s License and a new Home insurance policy (Travellers’ via GEICO), several more bills are paid and am waiting for a passing thunder-boomer to pass over so I can take some stuff to the dry cleaners. Also need to call the plumbers (I’ve had a weak water pump for months, but been too lazy to do anything about it) and a window blind company (one of my fancy new windows now longer works with the current blinds).
Welcome TRC4941. I’d suggest Track Number, but I’m sure swampy or one of the others can come up with something more imaginative.
Isn’t it funny how big bills seem to clump together? I don’t mean the $100s getting stuck together in your wallet - I mean bills coming due. Or similar. **FCD **bought some stuff for his shop this weekend that added up to a substantial sum, then our cruise balance was sucked out of our credit card and all of a sudden, we’re in debt!! But Thursday is payday, so I should be able to whack at least half of it, then I’ll catch the rest next payday. I don’t like carrying a balance on the VISA - we did that for far too many years, and it’s not cheap.
Supper will be rotissed chickie from Food Lion, fresh cauliflower, and shells-n-white-cheddar - a very pale meal indeed. As soon as I post this, I’ll feed Higglet and start supper. I’s hongree!! Sitting on my butt in front of a computer all day is hard work… or hardly working… I get those two confused sometimes.
During the school year my alarm is set for 5:45, but I’m always up by 5 or 5:15 and I get to school by 7:00 even though I don’t have to be there until 8:00. It’s nice to have some quiet time in the morning to plan and organize for the day. For the summer it is hit or miss as to what time I’m awake.
I know I completely missed last week’s MMP. RT and one of his son’s were home. The Kenworth was in the shop for much longer than expected. It was a tumultuous visit as my mother and I are not used to having a teenage boy in the house. We all survived and RT and his other son are now on the road again as of this afternoon.
I am currently avoiding doing homework, but I’m going to get started on it soon because it’s due tomorrow and I have a friend coming up to hang out in the morning.
Oh! I almost forgot the excitement of the day… The local power company has been working in our alley lately and they were working beside our house today. This morning we went out to breakfast and returned to find that they were replacing the old utility pole and putting the new one in the area that is going to be our new driveway!! They were just finishing piling the dirt around it when we got back. I talked to the guy and was very apologetic but let him know that we had a building permit for the drive. He talked to his boss or something and they decided to go ahead and install the new pole for today and then in the near future they will come back and put a pole where the old pole is/was currently sitting.
To answer the OP, I get up at six, shower, make coffee, put together breakfast and lunch and am at irk by 7:30. In a couple of weeks, I will likely amend that to rising at 5:30 to take the puppy out for his morning constitutional.
Time to go move the clothes from the washer to the dryer and wash up the supper dishes.
Howdy Y’all! Home from men’s night over to the church house. We had a good crowd and a good time was had by all. I was goin’ through da fridge and came up with fifteen loose beers that had been left in there over time. I got a bucket, put some ice in it, put the beers in the bucket and iced it down some more. Then I put a sign on the bucket that said, “Beer! Free to good home!”. The beer got gone.
I have commented in various threads on the loss. I never quite fell into the worship a lot of my friends did (I hate Savini <sic?> and its guilt by association) but I feel sad. He did have an idea and a good eye to carry it through.
Dinner was home-made steak salad; Ceasar-ish. It came out really good.
The time I get up is pretty random. I usually set my alarm fairly early and then turn it off and sleep too long because I’m too depressed to drag myself out of bed, and then when I finally wake up for good I feel mad at myself because I could’ve gotten much more work done if I’d gotten up earlier.
It’s this way many days.
But maybe tomorrow I’ll try to actually get up early and actually accomplish more.
Woken up at 1am by gunfire just down the road. We adopted two new cats over the weekend (a pair of 4 year old exotic shorthairs) who are still a bit restless and working out their place on the hierarchy with Finn our other cat.
Need way more coffee to function today.
I’ll post pics of the new critters when I get some.
