Here is one story on his dropping out.
There’s an online campaign to get the Muppets to host. I’d support that.
I’m bummed. I was looking forward to seeing him. He used to be so great.
I updated the thread title to reflect the fact that he’s not hosting after all.
It was a real chance for him to kick some butt and wow everyone. I wish he’d do it.
Remember him that way.
(Actually, I really enjoyed his work as the voice of “Donkey,” it really works. But it’s the only film work he’s done since the eighties which wasn’t absolute shite.)
Bringing Eddie Murphy in to host the Oscars would have been just a haaaair away from putting Rob Schneider up there.
Now that Murphy’s out, I say we get Seth Macfarlane to host!
Instead of Seth MacFarlane, how about Neil Patrick Harris?
No NPH. I would be unable to watch the Oscars if he hosted. Even at the top of his game, he bothers me.
Too bad. I was looking forward to the Beverly Hills Cop spoof, if only for the theme song.
Nah. Its gotta’ be Ricky Gervais or nobody.
Or Neil Patrick Harris.
Dreamgirls was cheesy and maudlin, but Murphy was brilliant in it. If Norbit hadn’t been released in the same year, he would have won Best Supporting Actor.
Over 3-time nominee and beloved Hollywood veteran Alan Arkin (who was also, unlike Murphy, in a Best Picture nominee)? Not likely. But Norbit certainly didn’t help.
My vote for host goes to Neil Patrick Harris, although wouldn’t Joel McHale be a hoot. or Jimmy Fallon or Craig Ferguson. Gervais would be memorable, but not a snowball’s chance in hell of him getting it.
But the Muppets must make an appearance.
No love for Bowfinger?
Not as funny as I expected, but it is kind of funny. He’s trying, anyway.
I hear he may have resigned.
Too late to edit, never mind my above post. My husband said that’s what he read…it said resign, not re sign. oy vey.
