I went to the supermarket (Safeway) today (10/19) to pick up some lunch, and there it was in the dairy section - cartons of Egg Nog.
I only bring this up because I am reminded of an episode of The Simpsons where Homer claims that it is only available for “30 sweet noggy days a year - then the government takes it away.”
Pumpkin nog, eh? That sounds pretty good! No nog-sightings in my neck of the woods yet, but we’ll surely have some in the next couple of weeks. Probably by Halloween.
This past Saturday, Oct. 17, Stripes gas station/mini mart, Port Aransas, TX. Took the rental golf cart for a fill-up and saw the small bottles of Borden egg nog. Thought I was going to have to fight the check-out girl for it. If it hadn’t been so early in the AM, I might have bought some Southern Comfort at the liquor store next door (SC puts out their own special nog to mix with their hootch. T’ain’t bad.). Alas, no go, c’est la guerre.
Where the hell is my brain? Sweet’s Candy Company of Salt Lake City makes EGG NOG TAFFY. I found little boxes of it in Walmart 2 or 3 years ago ($1/box then); the day after Xmas, the price went down to a dime a box and I cleaned 'em out!! Unfortunately, the shipping holds me back from snagging a bag every other week by mail order, but if you’re thinking of giving a different kinda gift this year, work a bag into your order.
The first two or three pieces might throw you, but be persistent, this taffy is addictive.
Our grocery store has had pumpkin eggnog for about three weeks now.
Husband LOVES the stuff…me, on the other hand, I can’t stand the smell because it just makes me wanna hurl chunks. Bleurgh.
I think I drank some regular eggnog at a Christmas party one time by accident when I had no clue as to what it was. That might have been the only time I’ve ever willingly drank that nasty nasty concoction.
Unfortunately, I do not like egg nog. It just sticks out to me because I don’t like it, and associate it with Christmas. It seems odd seeing it in April.
Hadn’t thought to look lately, but as of yesterday, Southern Comfort egg nog is at my local Walmart–SC also has a Vanilla Spice egg nog, but I think I would put vanilla ice cream in the regular stuff first. Didn’t think to look for pumpkin egg nog.
I bought a quart of eggnog a couple weeks ago and, inspired by this thread, some pumpkin nog just last week. I love all things pumpkin flavored, but the pumpkin nog was just okay. I much prefer vanilla nog, plus the pumpkin nog was noticeably thinner and less appetizing.
I would drink eggnog every day in the winter if my metabolism would allow it.
