Yeah, I referred to this obliquely up-thread (like two lifetimes ago at this point…). They just totally failed to create a viable system for cross-referencing mail-in ballots against in-person votes. Made worse by sending mail-in ballots to every registered voter.
So somebody sends in a mail-in and now you have to check everywhere to see if they voted or not before you scan it.
I would say he announces for 2024 and continues to get gullible fools to give him campaign funds which he uses to pay legal fees for the incomming shit storm he will face, and maybe fund his private jet for a while.
I’d advise drinking heavily, but you have a young child.
Oh wait, I’ll bet if you make some really rich hot chocolate, you could give that to the Kit which would put him to sleep, then you could dump a whole bunch of brandy in yours.
Ah, ok. I thought that was the situation they were dealing with.
Still, Biden is going to win both Nevada and Pennsylvania, so it’s a non-issue in this election, I think. Kornacki on MSNBC just went through the math of why Biden’s wins in both states are a virtual certainty.
Arizona is less sure, but the Biden team likes what they are seeing even in that state.
They have upheld faithless elector laws states may have but not all states have those laws and some that do have very weak enforcement mechanisms (maybe a minor fine kinda thing).
Faithless electors absolutely can happen. Legally.
trump needs to come in at a 58.5% avg. in AZ to win it, which is tough but doable. Fingers crossed Biden can hold on because it would be poetic justice for Biden to win the state of John McCain, among other reasons.
I’m aware of that, but according to the ruling, they have to enact the rule before the election and can’t enact it retroactively. So for this election, at least, it shouldn’t be a thing.
A tie is only possible if Biden wins Georgia and Trump wins absolutely everything else still outstanding. The odds on that happening are very very long and would probably also involve a judge somehow overturning the imminent Biden victory in PA.
Yep. If it’s really close, a few faithless electors could throw a real spanner in the works. And in some states, the penalty for a faithless elector in a thousand bucks or so. Pretty small price to pay for flipping the United States Presidency.
while we are waiting for more results, question about the lawsuits re observers in PA and WI. One was thrown out, the other was settled so observers were allowed within 6 ft instead of 10. But Hannity and Cruz are claming that at least for a while observers weren’t allowed at all. Any truth in this, I ask only in case I get into a debate about this, I want to know all the facts
I can’t believe we’re in such a crazy horse race 48 hours after the polls have closed. I know the necessarily slow counting of the mail-in votes due to the pandemic are part of it, but who would have guessed the largest voter turnout in history would still be so close?
How have you slept the past couple nights? NBC says that it’s unlikely that a winner will be proclaimed tonight. You never know, but they’re doubting it.
That said, while there are laws that allow states to remove and punish faithless electors, I don’t see laws in all states actually preventing faithless electors from casting votes. It’s still possible for a faithless elector or two to slip through the cracks, so that’s still a thing.
It’s also possible that lawsuits could potentially be a factor.
I won’t really breathe easy until the Biden wins the EC vote in December. I’ll breathe a bit easier knowing he has a considerable lead and that the results have been certified in all states.
But the longer the uncertainty continues, it becomes fertile ground for conspiracy theories and outright defiance of constitutional norms. We need the counting to continue overnight and to finish ASAP with a preliminary call. Of course lawful recounts can, and should, happen if the result is close, but they need to count it and call it.
Right. They said they will finish the counting, but will not update the numbers until tomorrow. That’s cool, it’s not like anyone’s waiting for them or anything. Wtf?
