According to who, though? I guess they mean some major news outlets needs to make a call that puts him at 270 or over. I guess it’s a norm that deserves reinforcing, but it’s a little odd when those organizations seem skittish about calling a state that would do that.
Oh.
I’ll consider drinking when my lovely wife is done with work. Last night we enjoyed sour grapes. I wish we had a turkey and some cold duck (close enough to lame duck), but something sparkling will have to do.
Here’s a good update about remaining ballots. They’re take is that usually, most of the PA provisional ballots are out of Philadelphia county, and so should favor Biden.
Trying to make dinner, drink and listen to sirius talk stuff, so I can’t properly attribute what I just heard: “The US government is perfectly capable of escorting trespassers out of the White House.”
Joe Biden said it this morning in response to the question about if Trump won’t leave the White House.
There’s some plain talk I can get behind.
It was one of his campaign staff that said it, but still delicious.
I nearly had to go the provisional ballot route. My mail on ballot did not arrive until thursday and another saturday.
There may be some people who did not get their ballots until late Tuesday or after.
I promised not to drink alone, but I’m really not, am I? There are millions of people all over the world raising a glass tonight. Personally, the glass is filled with an impudent little red called “Prophesy.”
codinghorror, please come back in and fix this.
Right, it was a Biden campaign tweet. Thanks for the correction.
We threw caution to the wind and killed a bottle of champagne. We have a backup for when it’s officially declared. And another backup for that when they haul the orange assclown by the hair out of the White House.
My guess is that there’ll be a few paroxysms of cathartic venom out of a few RW media outlets, bloggers, and talking heads, but that we’ll soon be back to business as usual.
The (iodine-tinged) guy has 70,000,000 votes. These media folks may resent being beholden to him (and having to put endless lipstick on his interminable pigs) for four years, but their bread-and-butter hasn’t changed.
If anything … I suspect conservative media will view this as a solid retention play. I’d guess the average number of hours a week their audience is tuned in will go up if Biden wins.
If there are 88K provisionals, they’d have to break over 70/30 for Trump to wipe out the current lead. And there’s still the 29K of the “misprint” votes in Pittsburgh that will break for Biden that they just started counting (which will come in very slowly), and some number of damaged but not provisional ballots in Philly.
Hot chocolate and Screech for me.
(Just came in from taking in an outdoor sump pump, in anticipation of the major blizzard we’re supposed to get.)
Aww. Good call. I’ve got Crème de Cassis in the house but zero bubbly … and this would be a most excellent Kir Royale night.
Mañana !
[suffering through the single-malt until then …]
ETA: there’s simply no way his hair would hold up to that, but … not really our problem, now is it ?
CNN White House guy reporting that Trump is starting to acknowledge to advisers that there is not a likely opportunity for a comeback. (sources say)
Grumbles: 'tis ploy.
I just read a really good and thorough reddit comment here that covers the situation and the law involved pretty well. Summary: Biden can get around it by having White House advisors (not needing approval, typically known as “czars” for a particular matter) alongside “acting” high-level career civil servants. This means it’s probably not a fight worth having for the Senate, other than maybe a couple high-profile situations.
I don’t think the glue will hold.
