Election Day [Week][Month[s]] [Year] 2020 follow-along thread

It’s like taking care of a toddler, which I believe is literally how ex-admin have described working with Trump.

If they tell him to concede, he never will. If they explain how acquiescing could help him post-presidency, maybe he can be persuaded.

He will always do what is best for #1. Ivanka has said that in their family, it was always clear. “Dad first, everyone else second.” If they can show him it is best for him, he can find a way to quit without admitting anything.

I think he’ll angry tweet until January 20 and then live-tweet the next inauguration while he pouts.

He’s honestly a sad, pathetic, shell of a man. Always has been. He’s as deep as a puddle and there really is nothing there inside. Just selfishness and all-consuming-gain.

He does not fight. He runs. He has always run away from fights. When people show you who they are, believe them. And he has shown us over and over that he is a gutless, whiny coward. For him to continue fighting this would be completely out of character for him (pardon the use of the word character).

Besides, he will need lawyers to handle all this pointless, expensive litigation. Who is going to want to be his mouthpiece (ewww!) when he’s out of work? He is known for stiffing everyone.

Yup. Proud to say his blather has not contaminated my eardrums.

That’s an interesting theory. I literally can’t stand to listen to him for more than a minute or two. I tried to watch the debates with my spouse, but I had to leave the room after a short time. I’m not sure if this is the reason.

I grew up with a malignant-narcissist father, and I’m very sensitive to those traits. Like, people with similar traits make me very uncomfortable, and I can tell from an early stage when someone is going to wind up being very bad news. I think Trump just goes off the scale on making me uncomfortable, so I actually can’t listen to him.

I don’t dispute this, and I should have been more clear that by “fight,” I meant he will use whatever means are at his disposal. I’m not sure how effective his fighting will be – only that he will carry it out to the bitter last breath.

We can’t dispute that he has those 70,000,000 followers referred to by @DavidNRockies. Fox “News” may turn away from Trump somewhat, but I’m already seeing urgings from Teh Trump Faithfull to move on to Newsmax and OANN. He is never going to lose these people.

You’re correct – and like you, I should have made the point – that Trump does almost nothing that passes as actual work. McConnell and the Federalist Society could have had a stuffed newt sitting at the Resolution Desk for the past 4 years and would have accomplished the same goals as they did with Trump sitting there.

And again, how effective his fighting may be, I have my hopeful doubts that it is not going to go as he wants it to. He may well live out his days doing nothing but fending off civil lawsuits and going to prison, no time or money to pursue anything else.

I didn’t listen to more than a newsclip until his pressers this week. I was hesitant at first, but I enjoyed those.

Hell, they probably could have gotten MORE done! At least the stuffed newt wouldn’t have been on Twitter. or pissing off every country in Europe.

Gee… I’m getting a mental picture of a stuffed Newt Gingrich. Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside…

Only if it gets left out in the rain.

Or blowing up deals the congressional leaders thought they had reached with the other party and with the administration departments.

This reminds me of a quote from one of my favorite books (substitute Donald Trump for Zaphod Beeblebrox and it still mostly works):

“The President in particular is very much a figurehead — he wields no real power whatsoever. He is apparently chosen by the government, but the qualities he is required to display are not those of leadership but those of finely judged outrage. For this reason the President is always a controversial choice, always an infuriating but fascinating character. His job is not to wield power but to draw attention away from it. On those criteria Zaphod Beeblebrox is one of the most successful Presidents the Galaxy has ever had — he has already spent two of his ten presidential years in prison for fraud.” ~ Douglas Adams, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy

When I first read that my first thought went to Newt Gingrich.

Hehe. Would it be more apt sprinkled with seeds and turned into a chia pet, or simply left to get moldy…?

Count me as four. I successfully avoided every sight or sound of him for 3.25 years…until this pandemic. I tuned in to that Rose Garden address he gave in March- you know, the one with all the captains of industry plus Drs. Fauci/Birx behind him. I was scared and I needed a voice of leadership like I did from Bush after 9/11 and was willing to give these guys a chance to give me some kind of reassurance as my president. What a mistake. That day I discovered that:
A - he really does look and sound like Alec Baldwin
B - he really is a liar (with that whole “Google will be launching a Covid testing website early this week” fabrication- I actually cried tears of relief that it seemed like this was being handled [until I saw Google’s tweet of “WTF” 20 minutes later]). I don’t know why I let him even fool me once. Shame on me.

But…but…he’s the Alpha Male to end all Alpha Males! Mr. Macho personified! Ever hear of Arnie, Sly, Dolph? Wimps.

Damn, as much as I enjoy every moment of schadenfreude at thinking of him dying the death of a thousand cuts and he watches every celebration, and gets the updates of every court case being thrown out, It has gotten pathetic enough I just want it over.

I have couple acquaintances and family members who are so far gone into the cult they spend every waking now moment just waiting for the breakthrough that is going to turn this around. It’s seriously like watching an orphan kid in a Dicken’s novel at dawn Christmas morning, who is still sure that Santa is really going to come this year. Death of a thousands cuts is fun to watch someone evil go through. Not when it’s someone just reallllllly gullible and stupid.

I was going to say that not even Republicans would stoop that low, but on reflection, I guess they would. More pertinent is that not even Republicans would think they could get away with it. Besides, Biden is very likely to have quite a comfortable lead. While CNN still has him pegged at 279 to Trump’s 214, NPR is now projecting 290 to 214, and the lead is likely to keep going up.

IIRC federal law prohibits states from changing their laws on electors during an election (precisely for this reason). So they can’t mess with that (luckily). Once this election is over and the EC has voted the states can change the rules if they want.

I don’t know how firmly bound electors are in the various states, but certainly in many, the consequences of contrary voting are minimal. So the worry isn’t about official changes to state law, but about underhanded shenanigans. I think Biden having a comfortable lead providing lots of insurance is more reassuring.

Thanks

Will Biden’s Immortality Ceremony, the one where he eats babies, be televised?
