Despite trump seeming like he will never give up fighting against a free and fair election, it sounds like privately he may be planning his next spite project. This morning there’s an article that trump may be planning his own news network out of “revenge” for what trump perceives as Fox’s negative coverage of him:
So: Obama makes fun of trump at the Correspondent’s dinner and he becomes president out of spite. Fox’s news coverage is not sufficiently fawning, so he may now start his own news network out of spite. It reminds me of the plot line in 'Curb Your Enthusiasm’s latest season, in which Larry doesn’t like the service at a coffee shop, so he opens his own “spite store” coffee shop next door. I can imagine an Onion article: “trump opens beauty shop across the street from beauty shop owner who flipped him the bird”.
For those of you still keeping score, Biden’s lead in AZ is down to 11635 votes with about 24.5k left uncounted. Only 3.5k of those are definitely going to be counted (almost all from Maricopa County), the rest are provisionals (18.5k) and “awaiting signature verification” (2.5k) - a big chunk of these will not end up counting. Even if all the remaining votes are counted, Trump would need to win 73.5% to catch up. Very unlikely, especially since almost half the uncounted ballots are from Pima County.
“It will not be Fake News like those loser networks. We’ll be winning the ratings. Covering the Deep State and helping to drain the Swamp. I’ll have the smartest & toughest reporters. It will be amazing and Make America Great Again.”
In reality it will be use to pitch Trump family products, so beauty pageant winners and create a lot of pro-Trump fake news.
I’m guessing he would try to poach the more wingnutty types from Fox, like the Hannitys and Tucker Carlsons. I hear Jeanine Pirro is looking for a job.
I suspect part of his legal campaign is to boost fundraising that goes directly to individual 1. No doubt bordering on criminal activity, but he’ll take the cash now and worry about the consequences after he’s left for a country without an extradition treaty.
Trump may make a lot of noise about starting a TV network, or he may license his name to someone else who can do it, but I just don’t see Trump having the knowledge and focus to get such a big enterprise off the ground.
Well, it’s already been shown that 60% of the first $5,000 donated to “Election Defense” actually goes to a Trump-aligned PAC and the other 40% goes to the RNC. Then money starts to flow to the election defense fund.
So yes, clearly part of the goal is to raise some money to help pay off campaign debts. How many of those debts are to Trump-aligned businesses I can’t say.
Oh, for sure. trump was making most of his money trading on his name before he became president. Now his name brand has gone from representing ‘ostentatious luxury’ to ‘right-wing grievance politics with a heaping helping of conspiracy theories’. He’ll sell his name to the network, and be no more than a figurehead and mascot. They’ll let him call in and rant occasionally.
Unfortunately for Trump, the way that he has used lawsuits in the past just isn’t going to work for him this time. He’s not suing commercial vendors and contractors. In those instances he could have an incredibly weak case and still bully them into settling because the sheer cost of litigation for them outweighed the potential benefits of a favorable verdict in court. Most of those cases never saw the inside of a courtroom.
Now he’s suing state and local officials who don’t particularly have to worry about the cost of litigation and who have a duty to protect the rights of their voters. Which means he has to actually prove his case in a court of law, which is not something he’s accustomed to doing.
I don’t know about that. As part of the licensing deal to use his name, Trump could demand all kinds of things. He may want his own show, or the chance to choose the anchors, whatever. I was just saying that Trump won’t remotely be doing any of the actual work of getting a TV network off the ground, and he won’t be putting up his own money.
If it ever does get off the ground, I predict Trump’s news network will be as successful as his casinos, airline, steaks, university, etc.
In the first place, no sane bank or financial institution will finance it, and he has no money himself.
In the second place, he is going to be too busy dealing with a world of trouble when he leaves office - massive debts and tax bills due, investigations of corruption while in office, and assorted lawsuits galore.
Trump is a loser and a has-been, and I think even his supporters are… gradually… starting to realize it.
Some supporters pushed back against the notion that Trump is shirking his presidential duties.
“The president is out there as much as he’s ever been on Twitter, and the White House team are moving ahead with budget and staffing priorities,” said Dan Eberhart, a prominent Republican donor and Trump backer.
Try as I might, I can’t find the President’s Twitter duties in Article II. Can someone help me?
