I look forward to future trivia question Name of 45th president of the U.S., considered by historians to be the worst president in history. Actively undermined Democracy and tarnished America’s international reputation. His re-election defeat led to a series of reforms to prevent the demolition of Democratic processes by future presidents. Died in isolation a few years after leaving office; forgotten, penniless and disgraced.
Not forgotten, sadly\We wish we could forget
Ok, you got me on that, that is a better more up to date cite. I concede.
But it still has Warnock as likely, but 538 is hedging those bets like crazy.
I forgot the link to the Special Election forecast:
They mention in the article that Loeffler is a particularly disliked Senator, which was the primary reason they were seeing better numbers for Warnock. I can’t really picture the voter that splits their ticket, but I suppose there will be some.
Somebody should start a “Georgia Runoff 2021” thread. I would, but pretty much every thread I start dies off after a few posts.
I imagine that their hope is just to be lucky and have the recount of these counties net some votes for Trump. Then they can claim that the other counties would have been similar had they been recounted too, and that it would have been enough to flip the state.
I’m thinking about this recount thing the way I think of All Things Trump: more evil than outright stupid.
Since we know the vast majority of campaign funds raised in the name of this legal defense shit are actually earmarked for paying down campaign debt …
Why isn’t this just continued war with Eastasia ?
Why isn’t this less about where the Trump campaign thinks they may strike gold (ie, material discrepancies in the vote), and more about maintaining the appearance that they’re still waging the war they’re asking their supporters to keep financing ?
They keep solidifying their base, their lists, their war chests, the RNC, and creating buzz for the TIN (Trump Insanity Network).
I feel like this is pretty likely to be yet another long con in a hopefully-soon-to-end series of long cons.
…His ex-wife wrote a tell-all book confirming what his small hands only hinted at.
The NY Times has a nice recap of exactly what happened in Michigan the other day, and what it means. The short version: it was a blatant attempt to sow chaos and cause the state legislature to appoint a slate of Trump electors – which was never going to happen and wouldn’t have changed the outcome of the election anyway, but the Trump campaign somehow got 2 low level minions on board – who immediately caved when opposition appeared.
So: fuck Trump and fuck the Republican party.
Hear, hear.
I wonder what made those two cowards change their minds. Was it this glorious takedown?
This guy pulled some of the Facebook posts by one of the Fine People on the canvassing board, William Hartmann:
There’s some seriously racist stuff in there.
Seems the fool ran on openly cheating for Trump!
Horrifying. Michigan doesn’t do half - assed racism. Our racists are should be committed.
Is it wrong for me to be somewhat concerned that someone in the Trump Camp will find a way to smuggle in 20,000 Trump ballots that “were missed the first time”?
They might try, but these are highly incompetent and highly cowardly people.
Take my word for it, this would be nearly impossible to do.
Ballot-handling in an election is a highly efficient and well documented process from beginning to end.
The perpetrators would have to know 1) who hadn’t already voted; 2) be able to match the signatures of those voters; 3) be able to explain how the votes had not previously been accounted for; 4) would have to all come from the same precinct (good luck!); 5) explain why all the votes were for only one candidate.
People can’t just roll up to a board of elections office with a pile of ballots and say, “Hey, count these!” Doesn’t work like that.
Thank you for your calming words!
It’s insane that the craziness is at such a level that I feel the need to be concerned about this
ETA: But the signature-matching, as such, would only apply to mail-in votes, wouldn’t it? I was thinking of them ‘finding’ a box of in-person votes, which seems easier
That’s not what he said. He was campaigning to be elected to be Vice-Chair of the local Republican group in the 12th Michigan district, and his campaign goals were:
I don’t see anything wrong with any of those pledges for someone running for a position in the local Republican organization.
Where do you see a suggestion that he will cheat for Trump?
Look at it this way – the two states that are doing recounts are Georgia and Wisconsin. Even if the Trump campaign manages some extreme rat-fuckery in those two states, those are a total of 26 electoral votes (16 for Georgia, 10 for Wisconsin). If both of those two states somehow, improbably, flipped for Trump, that’d still leave Biden with 280 electoral votes, and a victory.
I thought of something kind of funny - the thing so many Trump fans like most about Trump is how furious he makes liberals. But many or most of them never considered, and apparently still can’t even believe, that making liberals furious might motivate tons of liberals to vote against him.
Funny.
