Election Day [Week][Month[s]] [Year] 2020 follow-along thread

I’m going to quibble a little bit here, but I could be wrong.

I think what @beowulff highlighted is the stated plan. And they will definitely encourage as many low-level flunkies (like the two Wayne County officials) to go along with that plan. They will continue to file/modify/withdraw/re-file as many lawsuits as possible to slow things down and paint the veneer of “contested election”.

But I don’t think there is actually a plan to have legislators submit alternate electors. They all know that won’t happen unless lawsuits succeed (and even then I don’t think elected officials will do that).

The plan is to make it seem like that should happen, and then rail when it doesn’t that the election was stolen for you. Play up the greivance for four years and then try again. Or just monetize the grievance for as long as you can. The fact that it undermines faith in the entire democratic system is either a feature or just an unimportant by-product.

The horrible thing is this is the best case outcome. Them actually hoping that and planning for state legislatures will overturn the will of the people is much, much scarier.

Trump’s superpower.

According to Ballotpedia:

As of November 19, 2020:

  • Election result certification dates had passed in 13 states
  • Election result certification dates had not passed in 37 states

Of those 13 states, 9 have certified their results. In 3 of the remaining 4, the date was yesterday, so presumably the certification will be forthcoming. The 4th state is Louisiana, where the certification date was November 10. No word on why it’s delayed or hasn’t been released.

Of the remaining 37 states, the deadline ranges from 11/20 through 12/11, except for 3 states where the date is ‘unspecified’, which are Hawaii, Tennessee, and Rhode Island.

I don’t see anyone as saying the fact he supports Trump proves he is willing to cheat for him.

The evidence is that (1) he ran for an office where he explicitly states his goals are to assure Trump will win (2) that he refused to certify (and is now trying to rescind the certification) the vote when Trump lost. Action 1 suggests the purpose of action 2 was to try and help defraud the election.

If he had never attempted action 2, no one would have thought anything of action 1. But, since he did, it looks a more like “assure Trump wins” was his intended goal for being in position to certify the vote.

Me too. I’m back out in the ledge, I think. I read an article saying that those Wayne county affidavits of wishing to rescind certification could be used in the ongoing lawsuits to “prove” foul play and that an audit needs to be done.

Exactly. Well put.

Ditto.

It is a sad state of affairs when one can actually take comfort from the following…

…which I agree with and believe is true.

I think I’m just going to leave a cushion, some snacks, and a stack of magazines out on the ledge. I have a feeling I’ll be back there.

Trump is probably doing a Howard Hughes where he stores urine in bottles and only talks to a few people in person. Like in the movie the Aviator and that part was true. Also the Hotel tried to kick Hughes out so he bought it . And he made them order years worth of his fav. ice cream , I think it was Banana Nut.

Skypist( made that assertion, citing a Tweeter who said that:

Except he wasn’t running for the office of County canvasser. He was running for the office of Vice-Chair of the 12th District Republican Party, and stated that he would support Trump for President. That seems entirely normal for someone running for a leadership position within the Michigan Republican party.

He was at some point appointed to the Wayne County canvassing board by the County Board of Commissioners, as one of the two Republicans on the Board of Canvassers:

If you have a system where the canvassers are appointed precisely because of their partisan affiliation, you can’t assume that they will cheat because of their support for their candidate. That’s all I’m saying.

That was Skywatcher, not me

My apologies! Quite right. I find it hard to do multiquotes on a big thread.

Why are those guys such fucking cowards? It’s the same story with that postal worker. Flip flop, flip flop.

Fuck them.

No problem. I find the quoting feature kind of confusing too.

Well WaPo says “breaking news” - one of the Wayne County GOP officials that didn’t want to certify received a call from Trump.

Looks like there’s a bit more to this shit-show: in between them reversing their attempt to block certification, then reversing their reversal and saying they wanted to rescind their vote, trump apparently reached out to them to congratulate them for their support. Key quote from the article:

A person familiar with the matter said Trump reached out to the canvassers, Monica Palmer and William Hartmann, on Tuesday evening after the revised vote to express gratitude for their support. Then, on Wednesday, Palmer and Hartmann signed affidavits saying they believe the county vote “should not be certified.”

Wow, wow, wow.

What concerns me most is that if trump could get his own slate of electors, half the country wouldn’t even think democracy had been subverted because of course Dems cheated to get Biden the win.

WHEN is Canada going to get off their butts and start letting in disenfranchised Americans before trump can put up a wall trapping us here? Only half kidding, man.

RESOLVED: Susan Collins epitaph must read:

I believe that the president has learned from this case.

I can only assume they’re concerned that maybe Biden is the true victor in Louisiana this year.

I think I love you.

Here ya go:

[Aside] Don’t know if this will help…

As I’m reading through all the new posts that have happened after my last visit, when I see something I want to comment on, I highlight the text I want to quote and click the “quote” button. That places the text in the reply area at the bottom of the screen with the poster’s name.

I read along some more and see something else I want to comment on, and do the same, highlight, click “quote” and the quote is copied into the reply area. You can continue doing this, collecting quotes in the reply area.

Then when you’re ready to compose and post, go to the reply area (making the reply box BIGGER by dragging the dark boundary bar upwards by means of the double-tipped-arrow handle-- not sure what color it is in different skins-- in mine it’s dark blue).

Then just insert your comments in between the saved quotes, deleting anything you’ve lost interest in. This is FAR superior to the system on the old board where you had to keep track of multi-quotes with your own faltering brain. [/aside]

I tried to do that earlier today and it pasted the wrong thing, but it was probably something I did wrong. Maybe it’s because I’m on my phone these days, waiting for the verdict on my ailing computer.

On the old board there was a multiquote button that I understood better, but I’m still working on getting the hang of this board.

Anyway, I’m out here on the ledge with my phone and Diet Coke.
