To the surprise of absolutely nobody:
Except members of Trump’s campaign and legal team. And his usual band of deluded fools.
My 18 year old son is a hardcore trumper. Yeah, I don’t know where I went wrong as a father. He’s been going on and on and on about how the election was rigged and spouting all the CT stories of food trucks delivering ballot dumps and vote count watchers locked out and sharpies and hacked voting machines, etc. etc. etc. I could do a “Ask the guy who’s son is steeped in right wing conspiracy theories” for questions like this.
So I had asked him that exact question and he said “because the Democrats knew the cheating would be glaringly obvious if it was too large of a blue wave-- Senate races like McConnell’s were doing too well in the polls to rig his election and get away with it”.
Except of course Biden was doing that well in the polls. So, the polls were right except when they were wrong?
It’s like this: The fraudulent ballots were there only in the case if the polls were wrong, and the votes were going Trump’s way. Once that became apparent, the ballots were delivered to the election centers, and the algorithms inside the voting machines were activated.
Ask him why none of the couple dozen lawsuits have shown any evidence of any of this. I think it is literally true, they have not shown even one fradulent ballot, and most don’t even mention fraud. If Trump ballots were found in rivers and under rocks, why are there no pictures? Have you explained to him how voting works? That only registered voters can vote, that you can’t just send in a balllot with a fake name and have it counted? Ask if he really believes that there were thousands of people in multiple states working in polling locations who commited a felony. And if it is so easy to hack a voting machine, why didn’t the Republicans do that? Does he believe that every single Republican in the country is honest?
Whatever, there is no way you are going to convince him.
None of this makes sense, but why would anyone in the US looking to cheat the election with “fake ballots” need to have them imported from North Korea? Or anywhere, really. I’m sure we have the resources to print our own “fake ballots”! This is just to make the gullible believe that Biden wants to turn the US into North Korea 2.0, I guess.
IIRC they found two. Not two thousand- 2.
In any election, some voters screw up, it is bound to happen.
Basically, yes. Before the election my son was saying the polls were wrong about trump. He had a huge silent majority that was going to reelect him in a landslide. Pollsters overrepresented big cities over rural areas in making their predictions. And my son wasn’t really wrong about there being a lot of trump voters out there-- trump did get a ridiculously large amount of votes, considering he was trump, running on a record of 4 years of stupid trumpism. So, according to my son, the fact that Biden got even more votes just goes to show it was rigged. How does a guy who hid in his basement and had 12 people at a time show up at his infrequent rallies get 80 million votes?
That just proves that it’s a real conspiracy! If it was a fake story, then they would make up something plausible instead!
Most of his rejoinders have been “you believe everything you hear from the fake news”.
So I asked him, what about all the 3 dozen or so lawsuits that fail to show any evidence of fraud? He said something about hundreds of affadavits. So I pressed him on the lawsuits, saying Guiliani and the other lawyers show no evidence and make no mention of fraud in their lawsuits, because lawyers in court can’t just make shit up, unlike trump, or Guiliani in a sweaty press conference. In fact Guiliani specifically said no to a judge asking if they were alleging fraud. The lawsuit complaints are on the record, and are only about small quibbling questions of process. He actually then came back with "what if all those lawsuits are a smokescreen and the legal team is secretly planning something really big?
You’re right, there’s no way I’m going to convince him.
This is the heart of Conspiracy Theory Land. It’s all about "What if?"s. What if this, what if that. They like to sprinkle in some facts, that don’t actually matter (“1000s of affidavits”). Then guys like Roger Stone just feed them more and more bullshit, knowing that the CTers will just assume that 1-3% of the allegations out there are true, when in fact, absolutely none of them are. I have a cousin like this, and it’s easy enough to just ignore her on Facebook. I honestly would have such a hard time if it was someone closer - my heart really goes out to you.
Will he believe the vile Laura Ingraham? It was a week or so ago when she said that the Supreme Court is not going to save Trump. I did not see the whole show, God forbid, but I would be pretty sure she did not specifically say there was no fraud because that would be too much truth for one day, but the SC won’t save Trump because there is zero evidence
I get this one from my conservative friends. They just use the “talk to the hand” signal and tell me I am brainwashed. LOL
It’s going to be very hard to convince people the information they ingest is false, and the truth the opposite of what they believe. It’s going to take a long time to de/reprogram people - most will find their way back to the light - hang in there and be patient for loved ones and friends. Some will not, sadly.
Thanks Munch! It has been hard being locked down with him 24/7 during the pandemic listening to him go off on his CT crap constantly. But he’s still young yet, just turned 18 a few weeks ago, and he’s in full know-it-all mode. So I’m hoping to God it’s just a phase. As a poster said in another thread when I mentioned my son’s trumpist views, “that’s ok, when I was his age I was into Ayn Rand”.
Yep, “you’re just brainwashed by the liberal media, dad”.
It’s no surprise that page 1 in the dictator’s playbook is to discredit and tear down the media.
Try being married to one… I spend much of my time silent, cause anything I say will be used against me.
Whatever it is they’re planning, maybe they’ll have it ready before the 2024 election.
Trump has, throughout his presidency, used the “you’ll hear about it very soon / in two weeks” method of selling vaporware to his followers. Over the past month, he, his lawyers, and other supporters, have been using it, again and again, to promise that soon – very soon – information will be revealed that will blow this whole election fraud thing wide open.
Of course, the “release the Kraken” crap either turns out to be much weaker than promised, or never shows up at all. And, yet, the true believers still believe.
Naw, he doesn’t even believe Bill Barr. Well, at least he hears what he wants to. I said to him "what about Barr saying “we have not seen fraud on a scale that could have effected a different outcome in the election.”? He corrected me, saying “Barr said ‘to date, we have not seen fraud …’ which means the Justice Dept. is still in the process of investigating it”.
