Election Day [Week][Month[s]] [Year] 2020 follow-along thread

In a year full of scary, democracy-hating, Trump-worshipping, reality-denying GOP bullshit, this is pretty close to the top of the list.

I understood that Wisconsin certified on November 30. Is this story incorrect? The New York Times and 270towin indicate all states had certified as of today.

So sayeth the Milwalkee Journal Sentinel.

The safe harbor provision requires all state-level lawsuits to be resolved.

3 U.S.C. 5

“If any State shall have provided, by laws enacted prior to the day fixed for the appointment of the electors, for its final determination of any controversy or contest concerning the appointment of all or any of the electors of such State, by judicial or other methods or procedures, and such determination shall have been made at least six days before the time fixed for the meeting of the electors, such determination made pursuant to such law so existing on said day, and made at least six days prior to said time of meeting of the electors, shall be conclusive, and shall govern in the counting of the electoral votes as provided in the Constitution, and as hereinafter regulated, so far as the ascertainment of the electors appointed by such State is concerned.”

So should I quote Gen. Patton, or should you?

Good point. They’re hosed. They can NEVER stop fighting the “good fight.”

This must be exhausting for the handful of Republican legislators out there who were genuinely looking forward to doing something, anything, productive during their terms in office.

Well, they boarded the train long ago. The time to walk off was when Trump became the Republican Party, in 2015. But they didn’t. They’re stuck with that “R” beside their name.

Sucks to be them.

Tx vs PN case docs - Search - Supreme Court of the United States

Other Pensyvania case - Search - Supreme Court of the United States

So the “bombshell” Nevada case (Law v. Whitmer) that was rejected was appealed to the Nevada Supreme Court. The NSC ruled unanimously (one judge recused) that the lower court got it right:

You had better. I’ve been whooshed.

" The object of war is not to die for your country, but to make the other bastard die for his." Or something like that.

Shocking. Sounds like he has a hard road ahead of him.

Politicians do change parties; sometimes even while in office. US Senators and Representatives have both done so.

They’re not stuck. They’re making a choice.

And the connection to Wisconsin missing Safe Harbor is … ?

I think the response was supposed to quote Elendil_s_Heir’s post #7595.

I bet he’s been calling Amy Coney Barrett at home, pretending to be her friend “Hi Amy, it’s Don Trump*”, reminding her that she owes him, and getting nasty with her because she won’t pledge loyalty and promise to “vote for him instead of Biden”.

*He did this to McCabe, calling himself Don Trump in an effort to be buddy-buddy. it’s in his book.

ETA - the Texas Supreme Court case is hysterical — we suppressed our voters and we are now damaged because those other states didn’t.

Yes, what indeed does Don mean when he says “intervene?” Does he mean that he will personally contact his friendly appointees and argue his case? Does SCOTUS have any rules against this happening?

I have to believe that this a distinct possibility because DJT assuredly believes that the power to appoint Supreme Court justices is pretty useless unless he can influence their actions in helping him.

Someone must have dirt on Kavanaugh. There were quite a few open issues about his financial background that have not been properly explained. So he might be the guy who receives most of Trump’s phone calls.

Yeah, there have been tweets today bringing up the old unanswered questions about who paid off all those credit card bills and whatnot for Kavanaugh prior to his nomination. Those are valid questions imo.

Yeah, right. I have yet to see a politician (either elected or appointed) who had anything other than getting and holding office as their Prime Directive. Its just that this administration doesn’t even try to hide it.
