The Orange Peril has been furiously pounding away on Twitter. From earlier Friday:
“If the Supreme Court shows great Wisdom and Courage, the American People will win perhaps the most important case in history, and our Electoral Process will be respected again!”
And after the ruling:
“The Supreme Court really let us down. No Wisdom, No Courage!”
So he’s calling his own SCOTUS appointees cowardly idiots!
Also, scattered between and after those two rants are a couple of conspiracy videos and false claims that have all been flagged by Twitter. One can only imagine him turning even more orange than usual, sulking in a back room somewhere, probably getting his faithful doc to get him a shot of dexamethasone. Someone mentioned somewhere that he failed to show up for a WH Christmas party. I have a vague memory of sulking in my room once and refusing to come down when I was mad about something – I think I was around six at the time.
I know Trump gets portrayed as the ultimate conman, but the biggest con of the last four years is the con Mitch McConnell played on Trump regarding judges. Trump thought he was buying personal loyalty from his judicial appointments. Never bothered to seriously vet them himself, or to maneuver his own people onto the bench. He just took the list that Mitch and the Federalist Society gave him and made the appointments.
And it turns out they don’t give a shit about Trump. They’ll be just as happy spending the next four years overturning Biden’s initiatives as they would have been spending four years validating his. Maybe happier — opinions striking down liberal priorities full of biting commentary are much more fun to write.
Trump didn’t realize that even though his appointees may lean conservative they also don’t want to make any decisions that will make them look like IDIOTS. Reputation matters.
No.
Ask your friend where he thinks the 12th amendment says the VP chooses anything:
The Electors shall meet in their respective states and vote by ballot for President and Vice-President, one of whom, at least, shall not be an inhabitant of the same state with themselves; they shall name in their ballots the person voted for as President, and in distinct ballots the person voted for as Vice-President, and they shall make distinct lists of all persons voted for as President, and of all persons voted for as Vice-President, and of the number of votes for each, which lists they shall sign and certify, and transmit sealed to the seat of the government of the United States, directed to the President of the Senate;-The President of the Senate shall, in the presence of the Senate and House of Representatives, open all the certificates and the votes shall then be counted;-The person having the greatest Number of votes for President, shall be the President, if such number be a majority of the whole number of Electors appointed; and if no person have such majority, then from the persons having the highest numbers not exceeding three on the list of those voted for as President, the House of Representatives shall choose immediately, by ballot, the President. But in choosing the President, the votes shall be taken by states, the representation from each state having one vote; a quorum for this purpose shall consist of a member or members from two-thirds of the states, and a majority of all the states shall be necessary to a choice. And if the House of Representatives shall not choose a President whenever the right of choice shall devolve upon them, before the fourth day of March next following, then the Vice-President shall act as President, as in the case of the death or other constitutional disability of the President-The person having the greatest number of votes as Vice-President, shall be the Vice-President, if such number be a majority of the whole number of Electors appointed, and if no person have a majority, then from the two highest numbers on the list, the Senate shall choose the Vice-President; a quorum for the purpose shall consist of two-thirds of the whole number of Senators, and a majority of the whole number shall be necessary to a choice. But no person constitutionally ineligible to the office of President shall be eligible to that of Vice-President of the United States.
Well, that’s the Democrats’ fault, don’t 'cha see? They forced the Republican party to invoke the Southern Strategy way back in 1963. Talk about a long game.
That does bring up the probability that Trump or his minions are talking into Pence’s ear about somehow nullifying the vote. I’m sure that completely unconstitutional ideas have been thrown about. Would Pence feel beholden to try one?
ETA: I’m confident it would fail but it’ll creat another circus. Does Pence want that in his wikipedia article for the rest of eternity?
At this point, I am surprised by nothing - the amount of crap coming from the office of the President is, in and of itself, so far beyond ‘reasonable’.
What I am surprised by is the wholesale division in our gvt - those that swore to defend the constitution and its principles are destroying it in the name of Trump - who couldn’t lead himself out of a wet paper bag, let alone our country in a crisis.
IMHO - anyone who stands with Trump in all of this does not deserve to be in office - and I hope (even tho its an empty hope) that they get cycled out with the elections - if not outright impeached and removed for seditious conduct.
Its ironic all the Trumpista’s yelling about TDS who now have BDS and a short memory.
The 12th only comes into play if the candidates tie in the electoral college.
It could get ugly. If a Republican Representative and a Republican Senator want to challenge a state’s electors, they can make it all take longer with debates, but they can only delay the acceptance, not stop it. In that instance, both houses of Congress have to vote to throw it out, and that will never happen because House will vote no to that.
I’m more worried about the “other options” trump said he had.
