Any middle school Civics course makes the distinction between a direct democracy and representative democracy.

Attempts by elected officials to declare America a non-Democracy are ignorance at best and, more likely, outright gaslighting.

They’re trying to get us used to the idea so we won’t complain when they achieve their goal.

Speaking as a Wisconsin poll worker, thanks for this. May the lawyers be punished to the full extent of, well, the law.

Pence had ONE JOB (Constitutionally), and he’s too much of a chicken shit to actually do it tomorrow.

Well now grassley’s office clarifies that statement, and says he doesn’t “have any indication” pence won’t be there. I’m beginning to think the Republicans just may not have their shit together.

It sounds like the Senate Republicans have no fucking idea whether or not Pence is going to show up.

These clowns could not organize a two car funeral.

When I was channel-surfing last night, Trump was at his unhinged rally reassuring the crowd that Pence would “do the right thing” on Wednesday, and if he doesn’t , we won’t like him anymore, right…crowd cheers.

I imagine Pence is feeling the pressure, he’s probably been paying COVID patients to breathe on him, hoping he’ll get sick before Wednesday.

I half expect Pence to pull something stupid, mostly because of that prayer thing. Because that’s how Pence handles the tough decisions. He prays, then God tells him that he needs to do whatever Trump says and that if any vestiges of a conscience weigh in with doubts, well —- that the devil’s work.

I’m thinking he might just flat out refuse to do the count and the Democrats might have to get a judge to issue an emergency injunction of some sort requiring him to do so. If he doesn’t find a way to stay home.

Chuck Grassley, President pro tem of the Senate, has already said that he would do it if Pence isn’t there (sowing confusion with his statement).

That would really be the best option for Pence, avoiding having to make any actual decision.

I laugh at the idea that Pence actually has a political future beyond just being a quiet lobbying bridge between the Christian right and the Beltway congressmen. I’ve seen paint cans at Home Depot with more personality than what Pence has.

At least those contain a variety of colors. Beige walls, on the other hand…

Hey - Pence covers the whole rainbow of colors: tan, beige, taupe, ecru, dun, griege…

Grassley’s conflicting statements:

I understand on his birthday, he’s allowed a very pale yellow.

What’s weird is, I understand he used to be a talk radio personality, which is difficult to imagine in light of his last 4 years publicly playing a mannequin as VP.

If my calculations are correct (and things go according to plan) then Vermont will give their 3 votes to Biden giving him 271.

Huh? Biden’s got 306. And the states are counted alphabetically; so Vermont’s going to be quite a ways down there.

Never mind, I see you’ve already answered the question.

Right, but Virginia, Washington, and Wisconsin are all after Vermont. Those three states have 35, so Vermont will get Biden to 271.

This does reduce the number of “objection” states, potentially. It’s hard to see why the GOP would bother objecting to Wisconsin once Biden already has 271. Oh, wait, political theater - never mind.

Sounds like Chuck may have let the cat out of the bag before he was supposed to. I guess at that age the mind does wander.
