Election Day [Week][Month[s]] [Year] 2020 follow-along thread

To my Spanish-speaking ear (and a little to my English-speaking ones) maroon sound like brown, and it could sound amazingly racist.
i imagine you were trying to say morons, but it’s not the best word to say maroon.

But the big urban centres are at less than the overall 91% counted. It will be closer than you think.

NYT now has the probability of Biden winning Georgia at 67%.

You got something against Bugs Bunny?

2-to-1 then? It still means 65-70% Biden. Also, urban center are at 80-90%.

Trump tweet:

“Votes cannot be cast after the Poles are closed.”

What time is it in Poland, anyway? Is Poland closed?

It’s probably a Bugs Bunny reference; Bugs often used the term “what a maroon,” substituting “maroon” for “moron.” (And, sometimes, an “ultra-maroon.”)

It’s also a shade of red so it’s quite fitting for all Trump supporters.

What, do you want to vote for him for president?

I now officially give up on figuring out WTF is going on.

AP has called Minnesota for Biden, and it appears he’ll win it much more handily than Clinton did; she just scraped by, whereas Biden will win it pretty easily. That bodes well for what we may see in Wisconsin.

The magic mushroom legalization in Oregon is for medical use only. Not general rec.

I don’t know if anyone’s reported this here: The was a water main break in the place absentee ballots are counted in Fulton County GA. That delays the count of votes there. Fulton County is Atlanta, a very D area.

Huh, interestingly, etymologically, maroon does have a lot of slavery-origin racist baggage… I had no idea until @Aji_de_Gallina brought that up, though of course I also immediately thought of:

Etymology 4Edit

From an intentional mispronunciation of the word moron used by the cartoon character Bugs Bunny.

NounEdit

maroon ( plural maroons )

  1. (slang, derogatory) An idiot; a fool. quotations ▼

Synonyms: see Thesaurus:fool, Thesaurus:idiot

The largest outstanding counties are Fulton (58% in, 74% for Biden) and DeKalb (31% in, currently ~82% Biden). I agree he’s got a high hill to climb, but as you can see he currently IS winning by more than 2-1 in those areas. This why the NYT backed up on their odds.

The votes tallied so far in those counties are almost all absentee. The remaining ballots will be much more favorable to Trump than what has been counted so far. It will be nowhere near as close as you think.

Anyone knows what’s happening in Nebraska-2. That could prove crucial if Biden loses PA and wins Arizona.

I just find it strange that folks are advocating truly fascist tactics in order to deprive millions of fellow Americans of any sort of freedom. I’m not sure if the irony is intentional and farcical or if it’s serious.

It’s a joke from Bugs Bunny cartoons. Not the least bit racist. The archaic reference to slaves wouldn’t be widely known in the US.

I only endorse authoritarian tactics in order to provide millions of fellow Americans with any sort of freedom. America can only become a better place if we get rid of the party that has built its brand around oppressing women, people of color, LBGT, and the poor, all in order to establish a permanent aristocracy of the parasite class.

The NYT needle has now made Georgia a coin flip.
