Just perfection. Please continue to be confused why it’s hard for some people to embrace your political philosophy despite the absence of any strong competition.

Extra Credits has done a really good series lately about the issues in American democracy and how they can be fixed. It is definitely worth watching. I don’t think the situation is hopeless in the USA, but it is going to take some will especially the Democrats. They need to stop being afraid of what Republicans are going to brand them, and go for it. Get their message out and counter-brand the Republicans.
Not in Connecticut. Absentee ballots must be received by 8:00 p.m. tonight. The postmark is irrelevant. That’s why state elections officials have been telling everyone for the last two weeks to use the official ballot drop boxes instead of mailing them. As long as a voter puts their absentee ballot in their town’s official ballot drop box by 8:00 p.m., it counts.
A voter who mails their absentee ballot in Connecticut today just threw their vote away. It will not be counted.
Ah, yes. Abandon your family, your neighbors, your animals, your house, and your land, in order to save your life.
People have to make that choice sometimes. They damn well shouldn’t have to do so in the USA.
(I’m aware that there are people to whom none of that matters, and who think that everyone should be ready and able to pack up and move without blinking. I don’t understand them, but I know that they exist. I don’t expect them to understand people to whom all of that does matter; but I wish they’d recognize our existence. Some do, of course.)
WTF?
Dinsdale most certainly doesn’t represent American liberals in this.
We’re about halfway through Election Day, and I haven’t heard a single report of poll watchers, intimidation, people with guns at polling sites…any of that nonsense.
Donnie thanking his campaign staff (surprising that he would do that)- he did not have the look of a guy who thought he was going to win. I think he has been told that he is toast.
I took off yesterday.
Today is my compressed day off, but I also took off tomorrow. Partly because returns may not be in until then, partly because I am predicting the possibility of a rare-for-me hangover and have no intention of trying to work with that at my age .
If you’re looking for a way to pass the time, may I recommend this fascinating Radiolab podcast, Bloc Party? It interviews people in small voting blocs who have significant influence in the election. As best as I can tell it’s non-partisan and did not make my blood boil. It’s actually a very human look at what motivates people to vote.

This happened over the weekend in Oregon, near Eugene. Fortunately, there are multiple ballot drop boxes, so hopefully the affected voters still managed to get their ballots submitted.
“The voter was concerned for his safety and, rather than proceeding to the drop box, instead left without depositing his ballot.”
Here’s an interesting story about geology and voting that someone posted on Twitter yesterday. Sorry if you can’t get to Twitter to read it. I thought it was pretty neat. Just some interesting reading to pass the time.
Here are links to an NPR summary and the original source of the story from 2012 that’s not on Twitter:
States in the Deep South traditionally vote Republican in every presidential election. However, a string of "blue" counties curve through Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia. And the reason for this political anomaly seems to lie with ancient oceans and...
Hale County in west central Alabama and Bamberg County in southern South Carolina are 450 miles apart. Both counties have a population of 16,000 of which around 60% are African American. The median households and per capita incomes are well below...

Yeah - that’s a good sign! Tho I did ask my wife if I’d be thought intimidating with my vicious attack dog outside the polling place! (35# goldendoodle.)
I hate that things have gotten to the point where I expect the worst. Best of all worlds, the day passes w/o major disruptions, and the results are clear enough to withstand challenges.
Thanks, @robby!
I dunno - maybe it is time to admit that our verion of democracy was an unsuccessful experiment.
So, we’re going with monarchy, then?
I just got home from work, and my gf is gone, as is her car. There’s a note that she’s giving rides to the polls for people requesting help from the local Biden Campaign group.
She reassured me that mask compliance is a must, and she only has four people to escort.
So, we’re going with monarchy, then?
There are only 2 options?
I’ll just say that I’ve never had any interest whatsoever in Twitter or Facebook. I’m no luddite. I do use Linkedin. But I don’t care what Uncle Harry had for lunch, and if any of those platforms are your source of news you shouldn’t be allowed to vote.
Now talking about crowd size. 40-50k, maybe more
I’m just getting here. Some context for this remark, please. Are you saying you are now in line to vote with 40,000 to 50,000 other people?? If not a voting “crowd,” then what kind of crowd? Where is this?
You tell me.
So, we’re going with monarchy, then?
Theocracy, with me as your god. Cowering is strongly recommended.

Nah, but I would go with Cardi B as Goddess and Empress of the Universe.
