I have to be honsest and say that even though he was a Dem, Alvin Greene was probably the single worst candidate on any ballot for any office in any state. It’s an embarassment that he was on a ballot at all.
I rather wish Rachel was doing the coverage alone tonight. Her ripping of Evan Bayh (and good riddance, even with the loss of the IN seat) was a thing of beauty.
Watching Rand Paul on CNN, I’m moved to believe that Kentucky has replaced a crazy, senile Senator with one who doesn’t have the excuse of being senile.
Really nothing too shocking so far - if anything a good night for Dems so far, definitely in the Senate. Exit polls looking shocking good in WI and CO, actually (at least on CNN). Big win in WV. House looking like ~55 seats, right in line with the projections.
And now CNN calls a GOP majority in the House. Couldn’t they have done that a few months ago?
The Retard Revolution has begun!
This should be hilarious.
Winning the Senate was always an outside chance. People trying to paint this as a good night for Democrats are kidding themselves.
CNN is projecting a Republican House takeover as we speak. That’s a good Republican night.
Any bet about what Carl Paladino’s concession speech will be like? I"m guessing it’ll be a long profanity-laden rant, and maybe a threat or two to Cuomo.
Heh … the spell checker recommended “Palomino’s”.
Right, because you don’t want to make law, just stop it from being made for the next two years. Long enough to make sure we hit a global warming tipping point. Poor baby, you still don’t know that the Great Old Ones won’t really eat you first.
Well, it might be hilarious, but Lawrence O’Donnell was making a valid point about the debt ceiling and Rand Paul. What if he does single-handedly force the US into default? I’d prefer not to live through the Second Great Depression.
People trying to deny that not taking the Senate is a fail for the Republicans are kidding themselves. They got the House for a couple of year. Bully for them. All it means is that they have to work with Obama now, which will incense the teabaggers all the more. They are responsible now. They can’t just be the sandbagging, griping, cancerous Randy Mosses of Washington anymore.
Apparently Louisianans appear to like grown men in diapers visiting prostitutes.
I’ll consider it, under the circumstances, a good night for Democrats if we hold 51 (+ the two independents) seats in the Senate. That’ll make it irrelevant for the Republicans to try to peel off Nelson or Lieberman.
I don’t think any realistic Democrat believed that we were not going to get smashed in the House today.
I stand by my comment: anything less than 8 Senate seats and 55 house seats in this climate is a good night for the Democrats. Especially when you consider everything this Congress accomplished (and all of the difficult votes that entails).
If they win a few (hell, even one) out of IL, WI, NV, CO I will be very pleasantly surprised by how it went down.
As long as the Dems hold the Senate, I consider the night a success.
A few House barnburners:
VA11: 49/49 with 60% in
WV01: 51/49 with 51% in
IN02: ~2000 vote difference with 99% reported
Exactly 180 degrees bass-ackward. The House, along with it’s projected 60 new R seats, don’t have to do anything of the sort. In fact doing so will spell their doom
Forgot to mention PA Senate. I wrote that off a loooong time ago, but it even looks possible tonight.
So what will they do then? Not pass any law at all? No budget? Just sit on their hands and hold their breath?
How will that appease their base? How will that help them with independent voters?
Probably better for another thread, but really…
They have to pass legislation, and they have to pass legislation that will pass the Senate. They can’t just sit on their dicks anymore. Doing nothing will spell their doom. Passing legislation that fails to pass the Senate will spell their doom.
And Obama still holds the veto pen. The House can’t enact legislation by itself, and they can no longer do nothing either. Obama calls the shots now. The imbeciles who voted these idiots in are expecting instant, magical results. Good luck, dumbasses. Be careful what you wish for.
