Election Results

They ran him off because he was a backstabbing traitor. He was a backstabber first. He endorsed a Republican Presidential candidate, for fuck’s sake.

That just proves my point, though. He’s either “undoubtedly” a Republican (note that carries a connotation of “real” Republican, as there are no caveats attached), or a RINO. He really can’t be both. What you want is CINO, it seems to me.

Guam can breath a sign of relief, Hank Johnson was re-elected and can keep a close watch for island tipping

Yeah, neither did most of the lefty incumbents.

Well Reid might pull through and the Dems should keep the Senate barring party switches. But things don’t look good in the House: Nate Silver at 538 thinks the Republicans will gain 62-72 House seats, as of ~50 min ago. I’ll note that’s well above the 45 seats predicted by typical midterm losses and the bad economy. And if the newly-legal anonymous corporate funding of misleading ads is to blame, then we’re really in trouble, as I don’t see that being reformed anytime soon.

ETA: At least my favorite Representative, super-scientist Rush Holt of NJ-12, seems to be heading for re-election. It was not a safe seat.

If there was an actual Conservative Party, then yes that would be correct.

There seems to have been an error in reporting the votes fron Boulder County. I was shocked to see that Buck had a significantly large lead from the county. That didn’t make sense.

I have no idea what the real vote totals are, but the latest from the local media have it a dead heat.

Nice to see Reid win comfortably over that nutjob, Angle. Suck on those balls, teabaggers.

All in all, it’s was a net win for the Democrats. In football terms, they did the equivalent of holding the other team to a field goal. That’s the best shot the Republicans were going to get at the Obama admistration and they pissed it away by nominating a bunch of unelectable lunatics. Now the fun starts once the Pubs actually have to start working for a living. My guess is they’ll start knocking each other in the head, Three Stooges style, with hammers and pipe wrenches.

Another net takeaway from this is that the tea baggers can’t win general elections. Most of the real kooks lost.

flickster, it’s hard for me to tell what you mean when you apply mutually exclusive terms to the same individual.

Are you merely trying to say that Karl Rove is not conservative enough for your taste?

A net win? Man oh man you are looking at this through rose-colored glasses. I’m a die-hard Democrat and even I can see that this election was a catastrophe. A lot of those “unelectable lunatics” got elected. Like Rand Paul, for example.

My only consolation is that I’ve lived through a lot of elections in my life and no matter who wins, my day-to-day life doesn’t actually change one bit.

Yes, for a brief time the NYT polls had that 82% of precincts in Boulder County had reported in, with Buck leading by something like 5 points. Then, it dropped down to something like 54% of precincts reporting with Bennet leading by 40 points. Weird.

No. In football terms, House Dems got beat at least 60-0, and the total may rise. Throw in GoP gains in the Senate and Governorships, and tonight is a net disaster for the Dems. Holding the Senate means it is less bad for them than it could be, but it’s still bad. Obama’s agenda is dead on arrival until after the 2012 elections. The loony left’s last best chance for victory is over.

Living in Nevada, it was a huge embarrassment that Sharron Angle even got that close to winning…I know today at work, people were in shock to think she could win and I know there is a huge sigh of relief from most of my (teacher) co-workers.
Clark County (metropolitan Las Vegas area) came through big time for Reid.

Might not have been the best night for Democrats across the states, but at least here in Nevada, we can sleep well, knowing we did not send a truly insane woman to DC, even though right up to the end the pundits were predicting we would.

Well in basketball terms, the Dems got beat 240-195. And in soccer terms they lost 2-0. In weather terms, it was humid and in the low 90s. In MMA terms, it was a 50 second match with the ref diving in while the Dems had some semblence of consciousness. In boxing terms it was a TKO – but no permanent brain damage. In hockey terms…

Since all those courageous, principled teabaggers ran as independents or representatives of the new Tea Party…oh wait. Same shit, new name.

No, in football terms. the Republicans got the ball 1st and goal on the 1 yard line, couldn’t punch it in, and had to settle for a field goal just before halftime. They had their chance and blew it. It’s astonishing that that they failed so pathetically, given their control of the media, their endless supply of corporate money, and their non-stop, hysterical demonization of the President. This is the best you could do? You couldn’t even beat Harry Reid. Some bloodbath.

I’d rebut this, but Monty Python and the Holy Grail summed it up rather nicely.

A better analogy is that you’re acting like the linebacker who runs 40 yards down the field with his fist in the air after making a routine tackle on a three yard run.

Enjoy your short-lived celebration. It’s going to get really ugly for you guys really soon. You just handed Obama the pimp stick.

Dio, it’s the biggest swing in the House in over 60 years.

All is well.

The House doesn’t mean shit without the Senate, and all getting the House means anyway is that they have to cooperate with Obama and Harry Reid.
