Elementary Kids Sing Obama Indoctrination Song

I vote changeling.

So, what do we need, here? Silver bullet? Exorcism? Venezuelan beaver cheese? What?

Mmm, Mmm, Mmm!.

Sorry, I wandered away. Amazing that I could leave SDMB with the good work still unfinished, I know, but I-- ah, went to check the litterbox. Yeah.

Thanks to **ladyfoxfyre **for providing the link in my absence. My bad for leaving it out.

Now that I’m back I see there isn’t much different. sigh

But see - here’s the thing, even in the most extreme version, ACORN was eligible, eligible to apply for this money, against countless other groups. Yet your first statement was that Democrats wanted to give them the whole seven billion. There’s no reading of this where that’s a reasonable conclusion.

As for other incidents on this board, I refer to the already mentioned Honduras coup thread, and the Canadian Human Rights Commission issue. I don’t mean to imply that I think you’re insincere about any of these issues - your sincerity is one of your most obvious qualities on this board. I just think you’re a bit … credulous in where you’re getting this stuff from lately.

What you said! I mean come on!I vaguely remember getting upset about the gutting of our constitution and even the illusion of a right to privacy, then there was the insanity of taking our eye off of the ball in AFGANISI-FREAKIN-STAN of all places for an adventure in Iraq. I was more upset by the stupidity of styaing in Kabul than the outright lying involved with going into Iraq and it turns out I was right. When you RWNJ’'s have something subsantive, call me . . .

And now thirded.

I think it’s a church - I recognize one of the mullet-boys from a documentary about evangelical children from a year or two ago (name esapes me…)

Right here, Luci. I took some time away from the board to watch a football game with my son, put a puzzle together with my daughter and have dinner.

After the kids went to bed I had some private time with the wife. She’s 20 years younger than I am and quite attractive, so the SDMB didn’t hold the same allure.

What do you need?

What evidence is that? The statement from the school district?

I never said the singing was a district policy…and I read the statement for the first time a few minutes ago. What point would you like to make?

Can’t you people read the cite? It’s been posted at least twice now. Here it is again:

linky

It’s the Burlington Township School District. They’re public schools.

So what?

Did you also miss the part where the parents reviewed the song in advance, and attended the performance, and had ***no complaints ***before, during or after?

There was ***no issue *here. You can call off all the manufactured outrage now, thanks so much.

Go home, have a beer, watch something on comedy channel. That black guy in the white house (yes, it is still white) isn’t going to turn us all into something weird while you’re not looking. Get over it already. The country has actual fucking ***problems ***to be discussed, if you could just wipe the spittle off your faces and concentrate a bit.

Did you guys sit back and have a glass of wine and listen to the song mentioned in the OP? It sounds quite romantic, you know?

d&r

Yes, but when she got to the Mmm, mmm, mmm part she wasn’t singing.

It’s become apparent that Sam Stone lives in an igloo in Nunavut territory and his only link with the outside world is through his computer.

Here’s a suggestion for you: stop swallowing everything Investor’s Business Daily and the fucking Heritage Foundation feed to you and pull your head out of your ass, you goddamned nerd.

Uh, Dan, he was referring to the Bush worshipping in the link I posted, not the link in the OP. And he’s sort of right. It took place at “Jesus Camp”.

Still irrelevant, since the objection was to the practice of indoctrinating children itself, not where it was done or under what circumstances.

Hey, remember that song by the Crash Test Dummies? “Mmmm mmmm mmmm mmmm?”

Settle down. We were referring to the link in Shayna’s post.

And if you want to insist on “apples to apples” and would like an example of school children “who are barely continent in public. . . sing[ing] the praises of a specific leader of a country,” where that leader was George W. Bush, you need only go back as far as April, 2006.

Where was the Right wing uproar over “indoctrination” of our children then, hmm?

Well sure, in your OP you stated:

Not “clearly an example of a misguided teacher”, nor “clearly an example of a way in which I would not choose to celebrate Black History Month” but “clearly indoctrination.” You backpedaled later when everyone basically agreed that it was probably not the keenest thing for the teacher to do but by no means the national security threat that you and Michael Steele seem to believe it is (or was, back in February. Seemingly these children have yet to receive their Komsomol membership cards, thanks to your vigilance)

Indoctrinate, from a quick google definition returns something along the lines of “to fill with a certain teaching or set of opinions, beliefs etc; to teach one to systematically to accept a doctrine or opinion uncritically.”

So it’s clearly the intent of your OP to posit that by having the schoolchildren sing this song about Obama, somebody somewhere is attempting to systematically train them to accept a doctrine. According to the lyrics, that doctrine is “fairness”. Scary shit, there.

Then the school board comes back and sees the outrage of parents as something totally and wholly different from what you feel the outrage to be. They feel it to be the violation of privacy of the children in the video. Seemingly they are responding to criticisms from the parents, which revolves around concerns regarding privacy, given that from the evidence in the letter from said school board, they routinely do little skits like this where they bring song lyrics home to commemorate great events such as Dental Health day and also the first black president.

So in your zeal to enjoy the mental gymnastics you planned to see as a result of your OP, but of course were clearly not trolling for a certain reaction from anybody, you can imagine my skepticism that you’d return to defend your position once again.

It’s from Jesus Camp.
