In this thread, I said that ACORN was supposed to receive 7 billion dollars from the stimulus. I did some searching, and it appears that the number was whittled down to 4.19 billion, specifically set aside in the stimulus for ‘neighborhood stabilization activities’. That money was originally supposed to go only to state and local governments, but Democrats changed the language to specifically allow the money to be dispersed to groups like ACORN. Here’s one cite.

I don’t get it. You can search the bill online for the part of the bill quoted in the cite Sam gave, and it’s there about 1/4th of the way through under “COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT FUND”. ACORN makes no effort to hide the fact that they requested nearly 2 billion of stimulus money for housing initiatives exactly like the ones in the relevant part of the bill. Why is someone connecting the dots between the two things so foolish? Do you have an alternate cite that shows who got the money if ACORN so obviously didn’t?

ACORN is calling for the budget / stimulus package to include $1.8 Billion for two housing initiatives. First, a national affordable housing strategy to build new affordable housing, and secondly a national fund to provide resources to Provinces and Municipalities to repair their existing social housing stock (as called for in the CCPA AFB, 2009).

See, in the US, we don’t have Provinces. We have States.

Currently, as many as 1.5 million Canadians are experiencing core housing need, meaning that they are under-housed or face an unsustainable financial burden to maintain their current housing situation (CMHC).

See the word “Canadians” there? See how at the top of the page you linked to it says “canada.ACORN.org”?

For one thing, that cite is saying ACORN is pushing for stimulus money to be appropriated for housing of all kinds by the federal government, not necessarily directed to ACORN.

And for another, that cite is talking about the CANADIAN federal government. Hard to tar Obama and the Democrats with that one.

Um, your link goes to the Canadian chapter of ACORN. What you’re basically saying is that they requested funds from a Canadian federal budget and stimulus package, why isn’t it reasonable to conclude that they would ALSO do something SIMILAR in the US?
