Something has happened, though. Used to be, not long ago, crazy ass shit attributed to cackling creeps in the Administration turned out to be flat truth roughly 90% of the time, and slightly exaggerated the other ten. Now, no more. Now, such horrors turn out to be 90% horseshit…pure-d horseshit, mind you, rose bush certified and organic…and the other 10% sheer hysteria.
Something very important has changed in this last year, and I just wish I could put my finger on it… But whatever it is, it sure has driven some of us over the edge. Darned if I can figure out what it is…

Did it ever occur to you that perhaps you were a little too willing to believe every accusation leveled at Bush, and a little too willing to dismiss or belittle every accusation leveled at the current administration, and that the other side does the same?
In addition, did it ever occur to you that when you found out something Bush had done, you were too willing to assign the worst possible motivations to it, and when you’re confronted with something this administration has done, you’re a little too willing to assume it was only done accidentally or with the best of intentions - and that the other side does the same in reverse?
Finally, did it ever occur to you that this board operates with just about as much lefty confirmation bias as Free Republic operates with right-wing confirmation bias? That you believe everything you do in part because you hang out in a place where a whole bunch of other people believe the same thing and reinforce each other?
Has it ever occurred to you that perhaps the reason for this is that for decades you lefties have been proclaiming your moral and intellectual superiority to us dumb mouthbreathing, knuckkle-dragging conservatives and lauding yourselves over how “evolved” you are? So, in those many cases where you reveal yourselves to be no better than anyone else, it is not only beneficial but necessary to point them out. We wouldn’t want anybody to be under the erroneous impression that your proclamations of superiority and ‘evolvement’ were actually valid now, would we?

I’ve never proclaimed moral or intellectual superiority over conservatives as a whole, partly because when anybody tries to pin you down on what conservatives as a whole actually believe you dissect yourselves into an impossibly nebulous ideology that refuses definition. All the bad qualities you summarily deny having come from your side, by a process of continued and perpetual redefinition of the idea of conservatism. We get to play this over and over, “oh those crazies don’t come from my side, they’re actually libertarians. Those guys carrying guns to town hall meetings? LaRoucheites, not conservatives. Killed an abortion doctor in church? He was the fringe, conservatives don’t condone that behavior.” And so fucking on and so forth.
Apparently there is no such thing as a “true conservative.”

Because just like you think “you lefties” need to be kept in check, your bullshit preemptive attempts at pointing out hypocrisy are getting goddamned annoying. You’re not filling a void that needs to be filled with your comments. And over and over again it is pointed out to you that these threads go the same way: the hypocrisy is alleged, the posters from the side in question come in to agree that the event in question is not acceptable and they don’t condone it and therefore is not inconsistent with their original positions, and the OP gets to backpedal. But it doesn’t matter, because you and your cohorts are still convinced, regardless of what ANYONE says, that they really feel a different way.
So what’s the fucking point? If everyone responds the opposite of how the OP intends them to, or points out why it’s not inconsistent and you don’t believe them anyway, why are any of us wasting our time? Conservatives are not the ones who’ve been loudly declaring how much more intelligent, caring and evolved they are for the last forty years.

Sure, he can often manage to stay superficially polite, but the way he talks about leftists and liberals makes very clear that he does, in fact, think they are bad people. Not so. It was 1968 when the destruction of America began. It’s been a decades-long process.
My pre-1968 comments were made so as to make it clear that conservatives don’t necessarily regard the fifties as the most ideal time in American life because people didn’t actually start to become the beligerent, accusatory, poorly dressed and ill-behaved (and to a considerable degree, drug-using) assholes they are today until circa 1968.

That’s because, contrary to many of my liberal brethren, I don’t act that way out in public. I regard this as more of a private conversation.
Still, the effect has happened to all of society. Conservatives and kids with no particular political affiliation have been Jerry Springerized right along with everyone else.
