Many years ago my friends and I would all notice when the clock read 11:11.
One friend and I were working on an album, and the first song on it was an acoustic guitar piece called 11:11. The last song was called The End, and my friend finished the final take of the acoustic guitar part at 11:11 am.
Mark Messier, Phil Simms, Isiah Thomas all wore number 11
Apollo Spaceflight
Ben-Hur, Titanic and Lord of the Rings: Return of the King each won 11 Academy Awards
Canadian Maple Leaf has 11 points
Sodium (atomic number)
Primus has a song called “Eleven” (from, I believe, the album Sailing the Seas of Cheese).
There is nothing in the lyrics that explains the title. However, the bass/rhythm line consists of a repeated series of 3 triplets followed by a doublet, or 3 + 3 + 3 + 2, which equals 11.
As a favorite old Negativland song drilled into my head, there were 11 time zones in the Soviet Union. That has apparently been revised down to nine as of 2010.
My former roommate is obsessed with the number 11. He was born on November 22 (11/22). Most of his friend’s phone numbers add up to 11 or other double numbers. The house we lived in together was number 65 (6+5=11). He received scores on computer games like 1111. Etc. It was everywhere for him.
I just googled this and discovered the 11 phenomenon, about which a whole bunch of kooky books and websites have been written. Not telling him that though or he’ll go nuts!
