There is indeed a new rank progress bar for the Federal and Imperial Navies.

Did a bit of upgrading on my Python. New reactor really helps with the heat issues and with a power distributor of the proper size I can fire one laser almost continuously.
The buffed Fer-de-lance is a superb, sexy ride. Killed my first couple of Federal Corvettes. Good times!
Successfully docked at my first surface station.
Haven’t been losing my ship so often since winging up during that CG. On the plus side, I’m 75% toward my next naval rank.
I’ve come up with the ultimate PVE build for the Fer-de-lance.
Here’s the loadout, etc., for mine: named Maahes.
ETA: been blasting pirates in Resource Extraction Sites in Hel for the most recent CG. This thing is…well…very, very good at wrecking pirates. I doubt I’ll fly my FAS again.
ETA #2: the surface missions can be a blast. No, the payoff doesn’t adequately reflect the risk in some situations, but if you ignore that they’re very fun.
Dropped the Chaff Launcher and one Point Defense off my Python and bought two A-rated Shield Extenders instead. Having a much better time now and don’t really need Chaff unless I go up against a 'Conda.
This sounds like something I might need to try out.

Back in my Asp to the Wild Black Yonder. Since I went “horizontal” last time, this time I’m going “vertical”. And using Captain’s Log to track my progress.
Another newbie alert. Finally got this from a Steam sale just after Christmas, and have been flying around and making some money.
I played the old BBC Micro game back in my teens - think I was ranked two less than Elite. In this version, though, I’m still pretty hopeless. Made about 2 million credits in solo play by missioning and trading, with some extra small change from exploration data and a couple of bounties from duffer NPCs who attacked me as I was minding my own business.
So now I’m flying a Cobra for nostalgia reasons, but I can’t do combat worth shit. I’ve managed to run away a lot, but if the pilot is any good at all I’ll have no chance. Mainly I’ve been flying about earning money with no particular purpose in mind but it strikes me that I really need combat practice, even if picking fights is not going to be my primary MO. There will always be some clown who’ll interdict me for my cargo, even when I’m running empty.
Anyway, just wanted to say hello. I’ll be CMDR Lynnlifga when I feel brave enought enter open play.
