Being not very good at combat, I try to avoid it unless I have plenty of fire support from NPCs. Even in conflict zones, I stick to the edge and pick off stragglers from the opposing faction.
My Dolphin’s name – Stardust – references this fancy car. Yes, it does have a small luxury cabin as well as a small first class cabin.
I have just finished two back to back expeditions passage to andromeda and andromeda adieu which was a fairly extensive trip around the galaxy in my exploration Orca “Trip to the Chemist”. The orca was great, handles really well in super cruise , stays very cool so you can scoop and jump quickly when in a rush to get from A to B. I have heard that the Dolphin also runs very cool so you can be charging FSD whilst scooping
Going to get a few more engineer mods and get my phantom up into the 70 range and join The Children of the Core expedition that starts in a month or so ( long jump range not needed for that expedition, they are looking for earth like worlds in a few regions of the galaxy and it’s carrier supported so you can hitch a ride to the waypoints if you want )
CMDR Precambrian mollusc if you want to connect
I have an alt that I don’t play much. CMDR Cody Eyrmon and the good ship Tina Louise is somewhere around the Running Man Nebula.
Just wondering if any dopers still playing? The Thargoid Titan Taranis take down this week and live explosion today was quite the event.
Been out of it for almost a year. I did a few long expeditions back to back which may have burned me out a bit and got side tracked making some visualization tools in matlab , extracting data from edsm and Spansh data dumps and visualizing exploration progress and trying to make some sort of earth like world cluster strength metrics to compare the relative “strengths” of elw clusters we found. A whole dive into if C and D mass stars seem to be biased to being more prevalent in 5 or 6 ly range from the Origen of the C and D boxels rather than scattered evenly through the boxels got into the mix as well.
Anyway fired it back up and will be back into it. I am most likely going to be playing around with the Azura initiative and expanding the mapping of ELWs, they have some sort of role play power play thing on the go which I don’t really fully understand yet but happy to keep exploring here near the core. One commander on the expedition explored over 10,000 systems in a single C boxel. I tried to explore every system in a 10 cubic light year space , when the star density is as high as it is , there were a lot of stars in just that small space
And in the continuing series of exploring just how dumb a mollusc is , I just found there were a whole bunch of extra screen resolutions available in the graphic settings that I had somehow missed , thus explaining the near illegible screen text on the HUD, because I have been running a daft low low resolution for years. I figured I must just have a crappy set up , things look much prettier now.
For a limited time, Elite Dangerous Deluxe is $10 USD on Steam. This includes the base game, Horizons, and Odyssey. Odyssey DLC by itself is currently $11.24 USD. Not a bad time to jump in if you’re curious and want to try everything.
I’m instinctively wary of any product designated as, “Version 1.0.0.0” LOL
Does anyone play this on Xbox? I’ve been playing it a lot lately (Death to pirates! they suck.), but I’ve yet to see an actual human being anywhere.
Aside from the non-sensical proliferation of pirates, this is a game I think I’d quite like. I’ve always wanted to be an asteroid miner, and this lets me role play as exactly that, but it is awfully quiet in my sector of the Galaxy. How do you find actual people?
I’m not surprised. Game development for consoles was ended two years ago; I guess the servers are still running in Legacy mode (i.e.: Horizons).
Well, that sucks. I’ve been playing a lot of this sort of game lately, like No Man’s Sky, and Starfield, but none quite hit the mark of what I want. Both NMS and Starfield end up being “Just keep doing pointless things that are quite easy by the end of the storyline”, and so there’s no feel like there’s anything worth striving for. ED feels more like actually working to build things. It doesn’t just throw money at you, and the things you buy with that money feel more fairly priced, they’re not trying to force a grind on you using bad in-game economics.
But if I’m all alone in the Galaxy, it gets a bit boring. I’d kind of like to be part of an actual community, where just being an itinerant asteroid miner would be useful.
Even in live Oddysey/Horizons you will very rarely run into other players unless you are in a popular spot like an engineer base, community goal or Shinharta Dezra. A lot of people play in private groups for social activities. I believe there is a Legacy players group with a thread on the Frontier forum.
There are thousands of star systems in the inhabited bubble alone. so online players a very thinly spread.
Well if anyone is still playing you may have seen the news, and if you stopped or didn’t then other then all the new ships that have been released over the last 6 months or so they just announced they will be releasing player driven colonization and base building.
This game ain’t dead yet!
I still drop in from time to time.
Played quite a bit over the holidays. Dug my private limo service (a Dolphin named Stardust) out of storage and took a Famous Explorer mission, spent nearly four weeks of my free time ferrying them from Exioce out past Colonia and back. Some 88K Ly round trip.
Cool. I played the game a bunch last year, having left it for years. Was fun to go back and enjoyed the new features. An absolute ton of stuff has happened since I last played 6 months ago. Intending to jump back in sometime soon
How did the alien invasion shake out?
