Elite Dangerous

Ahhh that’s what was going on. I was trying to pick up thargoid shield fragments , I thought it was odd so I just dropped in and out of the game to resolve it .
Just saw the patch drop.

Picked up three Guardian vessel blueprint fragments before I realized that I had been following a guide specifically for obtaining vessel blueprints. Landed on Synuefe NL-N C23-4 B 3 last night so I can get a module blueprint after work today; gonna put the Guardian FSD on the Vette when I have enough tech components.

A FSD booster is now in the Vette, which now gets nearly 30ly empty. Almost as much as my Python. Had to engineer the power plant to handle the increased draw.

Anyone any recommendations on a joystick or HOTAS set up. Looking to spend 150 ish.
I am wondering if just a joystick and use the keyboard as well.
Idealy would like to be able to do most steering thrusting shooting and targeting from the joystick.
The hotas syuff looks nice, i am not sure i have the patience to do the mapping and if a better quality joystick rather than get the hotas set up makes sense.
I dont play anything else that needs a joystick.

My mind is putty , let me know your opions

That’s more saturns than a used car lot!

As promised, I’ve been doing a lot of E:D lately, and have explored all around the bubble in my AspX, picking up 10-15 million credits each time. Used the dough to get a better combat ship to improve my combat rating a bit, then bought and outfitted a Krait Phantom. It’s got an engineered FSD and already has a jump range over 50 LY but I can apparently do better with a Guardian booster, so it’s off to a Guardian site to get some blueprints.

Funny, this is apparently a “free” week for Star Citizen, which from the looks of a lot of recent YT vids, is becoming more stable and full of content. My computer is ailing (it’s 7 years old) and I have a seriously vital educational milestone coming up within a week, so I need to stick to Elite for now.

Have you looked at the TM-16000? Mine is 7 or 8 years old and holding up well; the new ones appear to be priced at ~$80.

Well it has been a while , I have been playing fairly consistently, and joined the current Andromeda expedition that is hitting all the major spots around the galaxy. It’s kind of fun and helpful to have the expedition carriers arround for bringing ships to the various gathering points .

I fired up the game on my Steam Deck to see if it would run (it does!). Apparently I got further in the game than I thought - I have 26,000,000 in the bank and what seems like a much larger ship than I remember starting with.

I gotta ask, when I launched the game I was treated to a cinematic of alien ships flying around blowing up human ships and spacestations. I assume these are Thargoids, though I never actually saw them ingame previously?

Does this mean there’s a war event going on? What should I know if I want to go blow up some aliens for fun and profit?

There’s definitely a war, and it’s kinda apocalyptic…waves of Thargoids heading toward the bubble (sphere of densely populated human space). There are probably ways of reading up on the news, online. In game, you can peruse the Galnet.

When addressing this situation, it occurred to me that humans need some organization. I found a discord that reports on where the bad guys are, where to focus efforts, etc. From time to time the Steam forum (steam is how I play Elite) has threads on places to go and things to do.

My involvement thus far has been to ferry passengers out, from endangered stations, to rescue ships. It’s easy money, as everybody has the same destination, so you can just go back and forth until the Thargoids catch you and blow up your ship. I think I made 5+ million just like that, in about 3 or 4 ferry trips. To avoid the thargoids, your ship needs to be able to boost to over 500 m/s, minimum.

If you want to fight, these rescue ships sell “AX” (which I believe refers to anti-xeno) weapons, which is a bit better than having to go the usual grindy route that (IIRC) involves engineering and relics. And the fighting is intense; even experienced players find it challenging. Those thargoids can dish out a lot of damage, while absorbing a lot of it.

Thargoid combat sounds out of my range for now. I think the ship I’ve got is called an Anaconda, I forget what tier my components are, and like I was saying I have 26 mil in credits. Not sure if it’s worth trying to help or not.

Yeah…I came back into the game several weeks ago, looking to satisfy my urge for a peaceful, interstellar spacecraft game, and I got this war instead. I too don’t much feel like fighting Thargoids. I guess it’s up to those who do.

People and cargo nowhere near combat areas still need transport.

I have completely forgotten how to play the game, so I will probably just start making my way towards the war zone while doing normal quests and trading and whatnot until I find the war (or it finds me…)

Oh, the galactic map is very clearly marked with Thargoid-invaded systems. Just turn on those markers.

Ok, I’m logged in, completed some new tutorials it made me do, I’ve halfway gotten a hang of the controls, and I’m heading to a dock to pick a loadout and head towards thargoid space.

Also, I have a Viper Mk 3, not a Cobra.

Good combat ship; my first foray into a combat zone was in a Viper 3. 'Course, I was going up against ordinary NPCs rather than Thargoids.

Makes user you have enough cash for a rebuy if you die !

I have been playing pretty constantly and back in the middle of September I joined an expedition that was to hit all of the major points around the galaxy , so colonia, Sag A , out to Salomes reach ( furthest point from Sol) , across the void to DSSA Shepard dream ( really remote) then all the way across to Star one which is the last star before the emptiness to the Andromeda galaxy, with lots of other stops between those places . 13 waypoints in all with one a week, and about 2,200 jumps ( about 40 premium boosts and about 200 neutron jumps)
There was a meet up every week which was cool.

The expedition finished on Sunday at Star one and a lot of people are hightailing back to the bubble on some fleet carriers . I am staying on for a follow on expedition which started at Star one and am currently at Western Meriadian ( really way out there, you need min 54 ly jump and use many premium boosts to get 100+ ly jumps)

We will meander back to Lave over the next 10 weeks , with lots of exploring on the way, assuming it hasn’t all been burned to the ground by the Thargoids.
The good ship “ Trip to the Chemist” paint job is looking really bad .

I’ve been flying towards one of the rescue ships. I am about 5 jumps away now. The trip over had helped me remember how to play as well as mess around with the controls, although I haven’t done any combat so far.

What has been really incredible, though, has been seeing the community react to all of this. Apparently there was some fishy business in the leadup to the war, involving an anti-Thargoid superweapon, and potential sabotage of the ship sent in a last ditch effort to make contact and peace. The community is savagely divided, between those who think peace should be attempted whenever possible, and those who… well, let’s just say they seem to really like quoting Starship Troopers, apparently unironically.

I’ve added a Dolphin to my fleet and have been spending my free time over the past couple of weeks ferrying a Famous Explorer about ¾ of the way to Colonia. Reached their destination and turned back toward Cemiess two days ago. Still some undiscovered systems out this way; I guess most commanders use the neutron highway.

Yeah, I’m trying to increase my Empire rank. Another 48% and I’m at the top of both factions.

Have you been involved in any of the anti thargoid content that’s been filling the game recently? Lots of rescuing and ax combat about.
