Gave up on this nonsense after five seasons of The Wire garnered a total of two nominations.
 Really? For some reason, we never watched the show until it was long over, but I just assumed that it was sweeping the categories for best actor, supporting, writing, directing, etc. when it was airing in real time.
That was The Sopranos. Seemed like you couldn’t hold an award show without them winning something.
Both Jeff Daniels and Bobby Cannavale were ridiculous winners. Daniels actively makes that character more hateable, and Cannavale chewed up and spit out every piece of scenery they put behind him, and not in a fun way. Ugh.
Nada. About then you saw the Emmy agenda; East coast show, east coast cast, east coast crew, location, etc.
I take it the Jeff Daniels show didn’t take advantage of tax breaks offered by New Mexico.
Make it in California folks …
Okay, I can sorta see no wins, but only two nominations? That’s just wrong.
Fwiw, the 2004 dominations:
LOL. CSI.
I don’t think that’s it. The Sopranos is one of the most awarded shows in Emmy history, and that was set and shot in New Jersey and surrounding areas. Law & Order also got tons of nominations and some wins, and that was famous for filming right in New York City. More recently, Homeland, Boardwalk Empire, Damages, and The Good Wife are all filmed on the East Coast, and they’re all multiple nominees and winners.
It’s more likely that The Wire’s lack of nominations is because it’s not particularly accessible for casual viewers. That’s not a bad thing, of course, but Emmy voters are well-known for not watching very much TV, preferring to just watch the screeners that are sent to them by the television academy. The Wire is, by design, not something that people will love just based on an episode or two, which puts it at a disadvantage.
oh okay
But CSI? :smack:
