Emmy Nominations!

Very happy for Jim Parsons. He’s long overdue for a nomination; he’s a gifted enough physical comedian to have succeeded in silents.

My thought was that this season would be Josh Holloway’s turn, maybe also Elizabeth Mitchell’s. Michael Emerson is always good, but this was not the season wherein he shined the most.

I’m very glad to see Brian Cranston nominated again, here’s hoping he takes home his second. He is simply phenomenal on Breaking Bad. And Aaron Paul for supporting is a very good choice as well. He really stepped up his performance from the first season.

A few fun odds & ends:

Both Will Ferrell & Tina Fey owe a nomination to Bush & Palin, respectively (him for writing his W comedy special, her for her guest shot on SNL).

Speaking of SNL, Justin Timberlake gets two nods, one for his guest hosting and one for writing “Motherlover”. And in addition to Poehler, Kristen Wiig (for supporting actress), Andy Samberg (also for the song), and Seth Meyers (for writing) are also nominees.

30 Rock’s 22 nods (including 10 for acting, 4 for writing, and 3 for directing) are the most ever for a Comedy series in one year. Grey Gardens also ties the record for most nominations ever for a TV movie with 17, and SNL’s 13 nods are also a record for a Variety program.

With 2 nominations this, its final, year, ER wracks up a total of 124 over the course of its lifetime, the most ever. Other grand totals: SNL (114), 24 (63), Late Show with David Letterman (64).

Emmy faves who are nominated again are 6-time winner Alan Alda (30 Rock), 7-time winner Ed Asner (CSI: NY), 6-time winner Carol Burnett (L&O: SVU), 4-time winner Michael J. Fox (Rescue Me), and 4-time winner Betty White (My Name is Earl). Bob Newhart is on his 6th career nomination (the Librarian), though he’s never won an Emmy.

Harry Shearer has finally recieved a Best Voice-Over nomination for The Simpsons. All 5 other regular castmembers already have at least 1 award in this category.
