Tuba isn’t shilling anything, she is letting people know about other that need some help. I very much doubt Q.E.D. is uninformed about the situation vis a vis the future switch to free posting, so if he wanted to spend the money, it was his to spend. And if he hadn’t wanted to do so, someone else would have. That sort of thing has been happening here for the last few years.

As of the moment I type this posting that is the situation that prevails. I have no control over any of it, including the scheduling.
Finally, I note that I do not personally profit from any commercial action on this board; none of the SDMB staff are paid. I do receive a stipend for other work I do on the Straight Dope site but all the board work is gratis. Oh, we do get comped the subscription fee, so I guess that means staffers get paid a whopping $14.95 a year. Man, we’re living large!

Ed has promised the business model is changing soon and yet you are taking subscriptions this late in the game regardless. That smells to me.

Whooo! Now that I have money in the bank (so to speak) and the bills are no longer pressing, I can pay it forward for gaffa’s subscription. If someone needs to be sponsored, please PM me.
