The parts of the other two tapes that I watched were fine… it was just the one that was acting odd and it was only in the middle. Joan, which was on the beggining of that tape, worked fine whereas ENT didn’t and it was three hours in.
Can’t remember which tape it was… may’ve been the eight hour. Was it the one with SNL on it?
One more oddity: Trip doesn’t seem to break a sweat or even complain about the heat, and he’s covered in blankies while sleeping. On Vulcan? Hot, hot Vulcan? Kirk and McCoy griped about it a bit in “Amok Time.” Did Vulcan have global warming that fast?
Aes: you have the tapes; you tell me. I am using the six hour jobs from now on. I just mailed the one with “Home” on it to you this morning.
I am filling another one with Joan and more. Check the dates written on the sides of the boxes. Could have sworn the 10/15 ep. of Joan was on there somewhere.
Trip’s from Florida which I can safely assume to be even hotter and muggier than Tennessee and Georgia. After twenty years of broasting there, you think the dry heat of Vulcan’s going to bother him?
Remember, Kirk was from Iowa, one of them Yankee states that gets like fifteen feet of snow every week in winter. Down South, a lot of people think that stuff’s just a myth.
So far as the tapes go, I don’t know since they’re over at Kat’s. Not having a VCR, I’m not in the habit of keeping them over here. Once I finish watching, I just leave it over there for them to use.
And I checked repeatedly. I only got one episode of Joan.
If you are feeling agressive tendencies, play this. If so inclined, you can kill Spot, smother Wesley, and kick Michael Jackson, Riker, and a surly ewok’s ass.
Then you can relax by gettin’ it on with Beverly and Deanna.
I’m as surprised as anyone, but I really, honestly, legitimately enjoyed this episode. I mean, it wasn’t just good by Enterprise standards, which means for me mostly a hiatus from the repeated ball-kicking, but it was just plain good by what I consider Star Trek standards.
In fact, I am going to watch it again before I say anything more in detail. I want to make sure I’m not imagining things, and I want to be clear about what exactly I liked and why.
I will say this, though:
Personally, I thought she was the most attractive woman they’ve had on the show in quite a while. I especially liked that she was his age, with the experience visible on her face. She was a real person, with a real relationship with him. I totally bought her, and I totally liked her.
You mean guest star or recurring character, right? 'cause if you mean anyone, I might have to kick you in the balls the next time we have a PNW 'fest. Ain’t no one hotter than Hoshi.
I too really enjoyed this episode, although not especially the Archer-centered plot (even as much as I like Bakula, Archer was grating on me!). My focus was more on Vulcan and T’Pol/Trip (smile), and taking in all that was shown of Vulcan–landscape, clothing, furnishing, everything. My one minor gripe was that T’Pol’s clothing was … well, bizarre is the first word that comes to mind. LOL I’d hoped to see her in more traditional Vulcan garb while visiting her homeworld but I guess they went for what would draw the most (male) viewers–revealing.
I’m going to speculate that Trip did -not- tell T’Pol that he was in love with her, and that T’Pol went ahead with the marriage. Which is probably going to put the big kabosh on any future T’Pol/Trip romance, imho. My question is: doesn’t T’Pol still have that AIDS-like disease that makes her more susceptible to emotions? Hasn’t she kept this disease secret from other Vulcans, including (probably) her mother? Does she plan to keep it from Koss as well? It doesn’t seem as if there was any planned “consummation” of the marriage, btw, at least to me–although if there was to be, T’Pol would be wrong -not- to tell Koss about that disease.
I too was surprised that Trip slept covered in blankets–Vulcan’s climate is HOT all the time, supposedly. Much hotter than Florida.
The way Mom talked about it to Trip, and the ‘provisions of the contract’ that T’Pol spoke of (with Koss, then Trip), make it look like this is merely a marraige of convenience and political expediency.
T’Pol did allow her true feelings (emotions)show to Trip in her little “Thank you” kiss that we saw her give him. Maybe I’m reading too much into it, but I got that T’Pol was extremely grateful to Trip for ‘allowing’ this union, since it affected her Mother so dearly. In that one little kiss, right before the ceremony (!), she showed a depth of gratitude and love for her man accepting this uncomfortable but needed arangement.
Sure, she got married, but she’s interphasic coupling with the Southern boy.
Thank you, NoClueBoy for giving my little Trip/T’Pol-shipping heart reason to continue to palpitate! Oh yes, T’Pol did give Trip a glimpse of her emotions with that kiss and I do believe the marriage is solely one of convenience–I just also think that both Trip and T’Pol are honorable, moral folks and while temptation may be great probably would not be drawn into going against marriage vows. But you have given me hope, so thank you!
Ah, but remember, he didn’t say he was afraid that Mrs. Plant would throw the cat at the TV, he said he was afraind that Mrs. Plant would THROUGH the cat at the TV.
Perhaps they have one of those “phasing devices” that can make an object go out-of-phase so that it’ll pass through solid matter.
I was reading TrekBBS a few minutes ago since the board’s dead and there was something mentioned there that no one here has commented on – Vulcan’s star system was finally identified in the scene where Trip says something about being dragged sixteen light years and that just happens to be how distant 40 Eridani, the star system that fandom’s been using for years, is from Earth.
I love little details like this. If nothing else, making things like this and the founding fathers of the Federation being Earth, Vulcan, Tellar, and Andor canon is reason enough for me to like Enterprise.
Okay, sorry for the triple-reply but I should say strongly implied instead of identified. While 40 Eridani makes the most amount of sense, I am sure there’re plenty of stars within the 15.5 to 16.4 ly area of Sol.
