There is a user whose posts have become too toxic for me to read. But I get an error when trying to add them to my ignore list. Any help?
(Please remember not to discuss in this forum what posters are or are not ignored.)

What error are you getting?
“An error occurred: Sorry, you can’t ignore that user.”
Are you trying to ignore a moderator?
Are they a moderator? If so, you generally can’t ignore them.
A workaround is to use adblock software to block their posts, but it’s really not recommended. If they try to tell you something and you miss the warning, too bad for you…
Also, if the SDMB has it configured that way, Discourse only allows you to ignore a user who has reached a certain “Trust Level:”
I’ve asked @Pleonast to let me know who so I can check the profile.
The alternate way to ignore posters is to go into your profile, then preferences and then the Users tab.
Enter the Users name in the Muted area.
This is how I’ve always done it. (Fortunately I’ve only had to do it a handful of times.)
Is there a difference in the results between Ignoring and Muting? I have one poster on ignore, and for those posts I see this line: view one hidden reply.
edited to add: answered my own question. When I have the same user on both Ignore and Mute, I don’t even see that line. Nice to know!
Agreed!
Unfortunately I made sure to mute and ignore a few posters and still get the “VIEW 1 HIDDEN REPLY” line for them in threads.
Well, now I’m back to seeing that line for the one user I don’t want to see. Oh well.
If you only have them on mute, you can read their replies but don’t get a notification or alert when they quote or reply to you. I’ve employed that feature with a very small number of posters (compared to the size of my ignore list) who I can stand to read but don’t want to get into a back and forth with. I find that the mute option helps me to keep that short list of posters at a distance, but without making it too hard for me to follow their otherwise meaningful contributions to the forum. I sometimes also use it temporarily (like time it to expire in a month) to break what has become a rapidly deteriorating series of back and forths in one particular thread with a poster I don’t normally have issues with.
I wasn’t aware that mute and ignore together for the same poster was even an option.
