Did “Ignore” work for you? Doesn’t work for me. I wonder if it’s only on certain themes?
I haven’t tried it yet. The poster that I wanted to ignore was banned just as my questions were answered.
I just tried “Ignore” on one of our esteemed posters, and it works fine for me.
Which theme are you using? I’m using Straight Dope Light and it always just keeps saying “Please select a time frame” and never actually allows me to add somebody to the list.
I’m using “Sam’s Simple Theme.”
Hmm … switched to Sam’s Simple Theme and got to Ignore somebody. Switched back to SD Light and still get to Ignore them. Maybe I was spelling it wrong?
Anyway, thanks to both of you.
I was already using Sam’s Simple Theme and I can’t ignore anyone, I get the same “please select a time frame” that @Turble mentioned.
Anyone have suggestions?

Well, you have to do that. In the dropdown, you’ll have to click and choose a timeframe for how long you want to have that person on ignore.
Yeah, it’s annoying there’s no “permanent ignore” option. But I figure that either it’ll be obvious when the start showing back up, or they’ll have stopped doing what got them on the list in the first place.
But it’s more Discourse thinking they know more than the communities that actually use the software.

There is. You can select ‘Forever’.
Perhaps you’re not scrolling down the list of timeframes.
No, if there is, then they added it new, since not only did it not say it when I put a certain now banned poster on ignore, but I checked the documentation and the boards where it was implemented, and they all said that it wasn’t possible to choose forever (with some people complaining about that).
It has to be a rather recent change, in fact.
It’s not new, since I said the same thing on another thread on July 13.
It’s possible I put ___ on ignore before then, but I don’t think so. And I know I scrolled down to the bottom, because I specifically looked to see if they had added a Forever option since I put _____ (different person) on ignore.
That makes me wonder if different people have different options. Are you maybe Trust Level 3 or something? I’m not.
No. You can see a person’s trust level by clicking on their avatar. Trust level 2 = Member.
Just worked for me - “forever” was an option.
Am I reading this correctly? Did you just suggest that two of your fellow SDMB posters are that stupid?
Well, I’m sure it must be my fault, in my case, because I didn’t actually say that it didn’t work when I did all the requested and required steps. So let me do that now: I put in a valid poster’s user name, and I selected a time frame (various different time frames in various separate attempts also under various different themes) and every time it failed to work for me.

When you enter a name, try waiting for it to find the name, and then click on what it offers. It won’t work unless it finds the name for itself
