I’m trying to ignore somebody and when I choose a time period, in this case “Forever”, it keeps saying “Choose a duration”.
Are you trying to ignore them from your own profile and have you got a user selected as well as a time frame? It gives the same message no matter which is missing.
The problem is with the user selection. The error message is wrong.
The system has to recognize that it knows the user. As you type, it will present a list of usernames. You have to click on a username in the list. It’s not sufficient just to type in the box.
You will then see the username with an X next to it. If you don’t see that, then it won’t accept the username.
This is a bug in the system. Selecting usernames doesn’t work well.
Since scrolling exists, why would you want to ignore someone?
One reason is sometimes people ask questions they already know the answer to and that don’t help the OP solve their problem.
I find it easier to set someone to ignore by clicking on their profile in the thread as you are reading, On the right is a big blue button that says normal. Click on that and you can choose ignore without all the user name/duration stuff.

Harumph. Tried that with your profile (just to try out the process, not because I want to ignore you), and I saw no “blue button”; just says your profile is hidden.
The only blue button I see says “Message”, and it doesn’t appear on mordecaiB’s profile.
The ignore button is on visible profiles. But if the profile is hidden, you don’t see the button. And by default, profiles are hidden. Jerks who know they’re going to be jerks will be sure to hide theirs too.
So that [Ignore] button might be the convenient way, but far more often it’s the “unavailable way”.
Sorry about that folks, forgot my profile was hidden. Should work now and it will work on others that don’t hide their profiles. I have 5 or 6 people on ignore and all their profiles were public.
