Even If It Is Christmas We Must Have A MMP!

My NYE plans are what they’ve been for the last decade or so - I expect to be asleep by 10. Apart from when I was a kid and staying up late was a real treat, I doubt that we’ve done anything on NYE even a dozen times. It just seems a silly practice.

I’ve been catching up on sleep big time. I went back to bed a little after 8 last night and read for a while, but I was unconscious by 9, and I made it till 5:30! The critters have been tended to and I cleaned up the dishes that I didn’t feel like dealing with last night.

Today’s big project is laundry. I’ll also continue to ready the baby’s room. And I need to buy a box or two of Dobie sponges - I had to toss my last one this morning - it was a mess. I found an almost-full pack of plain sponges and for the life of me, I don’t know why I’d have bought them. I need the scrubby surface of the Dobie. So weird…

It’s actually all the way up to 23° this morning! A veritable heat wave! We’ve got at least of week of nights in the teens ahead of us. blech.

Happy Saturday.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to work.

Been up since 5. Mostly caffeinated and administrated. Had hoped to close out some end of year stuff today, but it seems with year end falling on the weekend some stuff will retroactively post into 2017 on the 2nd. Oh well. At least the stock market swooned on Friday. :frowning:

Cloudy, slightly foggy & 61F on the way to sunny & 75 later. Still no sign of sunrise. Clean and fed is later. Thanks to Swampy for reminding me about blackeyed peas. It’s not exactly a NYE/NYD tradition 'round hyar, but its good anyhow.

@Dog: Don’t forget to watch/record the NHL outdoor game on the 1st. Oughta be sweet.

Sorry to hear about {{ Sari }}. That sucketh.

{{Sari 'n son}}

Today I’m mostly planning on vegetating, doing a bit more skool irk, and hopefully moving my axolotls onto a shiny new stand that Dad made me for Christmas. I say hopefully, 'cos I asked for it to be strong enough to hold the tank, and he’s made it solid enough to support a tap-dancing elephant. That’s great, but I can’t get the thing out the car, forget up two flights of stairs, so hopefully a friend’s coming over to give me a hand later.

I’m probably doing nowt for NYE. The last 8 years I’ve either been irking or gone to a friend’s board games evening, which was always really nice, but of course I’ve moved away. It’s only 2.5 hours each way, but I can’t justify driving that far then having to find somewhere to stay over just for one evening, especially as I was there only a few days ago. I’ll probably be up past midnight, but only because that’s normal bedtime for me at the moment.

Slept in, no flying this moaning. We already have more white stuff on the ground than the forecast was calling for…& it wasn’t supposed to really start until after 10 am. Somehow snow days aren’t quite as much fun iffn one was going to be home anyway.

Sari, hope you and Sah-son are ok; I think I’ve caught a local bug too, headache, stuffy nose, coughing…probably a good day to spend in bed.

Nut, would love to see that stand–sounds like dad was an engineer and is used to overbuilding things. Hope you can get it in the house.

Swampy, sounds like a nice party for NYE; enjoy yourself.

36F here heading for a high of 44F, but no rain predicted for the weekend.

I usually am in bed by 10pm on NYE, after about 23,500 mornings, one tends to be like another most of the time.

Need to break fast, get on my Aspirin and Dristan regime, and consider going back to bed. The Mythbusters marathon is still going on, so that should be distraction enough.

Up, breakfasted, caffeinating and a load of towels in the wash.

My NYE will be spent at a house party that one of my friends is throwing. There will be a potluck, board games, a jam session (I’ve gotten out my autoharp for this one given that it will be mostly acoustic), and sleeping accomodations for anyone who overindulges.

NYD, my SIL, nephew, niece, her new beau and great nephew will come over for black eyed peas (I saved the ham bone from Xmas and will add some more ham to it), rice, turnip greens, cornbread and a golden pound cake with lemon pomegranate sauce. The cake will be made tomorrow and the peas soaked overnight, but everything else is pretty easy to prep before folks come over.

Da cave has been dusted and vacuumed and the kitchen and bathroom floors mopped. Also clean sheets on the bed. Go Us!

MetalMouse the big meal is for New Year’s Day. NYE OYKW and I will have steak, baked N.O.T., sallit, and garlic bread. We’ll also most likely be asleep at ten p.m. NYE due to the combo of a big meal and bein’ old farts.

From the outside it looks like a little wooden cabinet, with drawers, it’s just that the frame under the veneer is waaay thicker than you’d expect. It’s all 2" where it would normally by about 1/2", with extra supports. He never was an engineer, he’s a former zoo manager, so everything is designed to deal with animals, and worse, the public.

Tank is now moved and set up, axolotls are temperature equalising and waiting to be re-released. Plant station is now on the old table that had the tank on- grow lights and propogator- ready for me to start sowing seeds for spring. I’ll start the first chillies off on New Years day, I think.

We’ve breakfasted, stopped at Lowe’s, then drove thru the carwash to de-crud the Sonata. I’ve just started the laundry. It’s cold and gray outside and I expect the whole day will be dreary.

Just another day in paradise!

Gray and dreary here too. It’s taking much longer than yesterday to burn off the overcast. It may linger all day.

Turns out there’s a bit more to the saga of my clothes dryer crapping out a couple weeks ago. So when I’m done filibustering w y’all it’s time to do some exploratory surgery. Such fun.

It’s always a bit fraught to start digging into an old machine that still mostly works. You know that you’re looking to discover a marginal part, then order its replacement, then put the whole thing back together with the bad part to eke out another couple weeks before the new part shows up and you get to take it apart and put it together a second time. All without breaking anything else. Or bleeding too much.

It’s 3F With 30 mph wind gusts. I went to the barn to visit Ariel. Horses are cozy inside. I’m now home, watching the movie Love Story. Ick. I hate romantic movies but I’m too lazy to do anything else.

Beastloaves have been put together and are all wrapped tightly in da fridge. In a while we shall call our fav Mexican place to place an order for tacos. I want tacos but don’t want to make ‘em and besides I have no ground beast thawed out to make tacos. My mention of tacos got OYKW to start wantin’ tacos as well. Guess we’ll have tacos.

WetOne Love Story? I hope you have a bathroom or trash can nearby for barf purposes.

Our snow finally melted after two solid days of toad soaking rain. It’s grey out, but it’s not too cold; somewhere in the 40s.

I was up before the butt-crack of dawn, as per usual. I’ve done some tidying, cleaned the kitchen and have the stock simmering away for my prime rib soup. I have to remember to put some aside to give to my son when he next comes to visit. The rest of the soup shall be eaten my husband and I. We stretched our prime rib Christmas dinner leftovers for a week, and the soup will probably get us through several days too. Not that I’m complaining. I happen to love this soup and look forward to it every year.

We are not going anywhere for NYE. Truth be told; I’ll probably be asleep before midnight.

I bailed after 5 minutes of Love Story and turned on the Harry Potter marathon. Going out to,dinner tonight, tomorrow I’m seeing Darkest Hour at 12:15 pm. I want to be home before dark. Old fogey I am!

Pizza for supper - YAY!! **FCD **is making much progress on his website once I googled how-to info. I’ve finished the laundry and I’ve been reading. It’s getting dark and it’s below freezing again. Two more free days, then back to work.

Got enough energy to go get my hair cut this afternoon and pickup some NyQuil and Dristan (the NyQuil bottle in the house was 2 years old, figured it was worth getting a new one). Back to bedrest in a bit.

wet one, I saw Darkest Hour a week or so ago and loved it. Hope you enjoy it too.

Tacos were procured and ingested. YUM! Life is good. Looks like we’ll get some of the cold weather next week with lows in the 20s and highs in the 40s. Long as there is no ice or snow I can deal.

Pizza was good, and there’s enough left over for breakfast tomorrow. Theoretically, someone is coming over tomorrow to buy our old hutch - fingers crossed…

Why am I so tired? I did so little today…

Today was a nice, cozy day. I [del]played[/del] worked in the studio, washed a load of towels, then a load of sheets and blankets, took Nelson to the dog park and then popped into the panderia for some fresh corn tortillas and a molasses cookie for tomorrow’s breakfast.

Tonight was quesadillas con queso fresco, col frita y avocado.
