I would definitely agree with everyone’s thoughts on standing all day,** Midget**. You can do it! It will certainly suck the first couple of days, but tough it out and it will get better. Also I agree that good shoes are a must. Something like a New Balance tennis shoe or any other shoes that are custom-fitted by a shoe store. Tell them what the shoes are going to be used for.
Things are kind of a whirlwind down here. I feel like I’m making a little bit of progress week by week, but I still feel incredibly behind on what I should be doing. I currently have 8 students and will be getting another one in about a week.
The good news is that I’ve unpacked just about everything. The bad news is that while this house that we’re renting suits me very well, it is very small. Thus, I have a drill press on a rolling cart stored in my master bedroom! The rental market in this area is just ridiculous because there is oil drilling about 45 minutes South of here and all of the workers looking for - and trashing- housing have caused rents to skyrocket. Hopefully things will settle down and if we decide to look for a different place to rent next year, the costs will have lowered.
StickyBuns drape the drill press in unbleached muslin and balance a lampshade on top. It’ll be chic. Trust me. I’m supposed to know all this stuff after all.
And on that note, da bear shall retire for the night.
Because things aren’t crazy enough chez moi recently, I had food poisoning last night. It reminded me of prepping for my last colonoscopy. Which I really need to do again, but that’s a different story. Anyhow, I finally got settled down just as the alarm was going off. So I dragged my self off, got the kids to school, and then crawled into bed. Wasted day.
Other than that, after discussions with my new neurologist, I shall be taking a medical leave to see if I can get my migraines under control. So that’s tomorrow’s project.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 70 Amurrkin out with a predicted high of 80 for the day and sunny. Nice way to start Fall!
{{{Sunny}}} hope you’re feelin’ better today.
Today will be a bzzy day at irk. I will be settin’ up new files and callin’ trainin’ sites and new participants about start times next week. I also expect to get a few more approvals for new folks today. Rah. Actually this is a good thing.
OK, that’s all I got. I need more caffeine and rumbly tummy wants to be fed. Then, alas and alack, irk purtification must commence.
Happy Hump Day Y’all! To everyone north of the equator, Happy Fall Y’all!
Second of all, since this thread seems to be about giving advice, I have a dilemma. Today is Yom Kippur and I am conflicted over whether to take today off, or go to work. I did not take Rosh Hashanah off and I’m not sure I’m going to go to services today.
I always end up buying the cheapo shoes at the discount store. I’m thinking one of these days I’ll have to buy some better shoes. I don’t have much money, but I do have some money saved up and specifically put aside for clothes, so I wouldn’t mind spending a bit more than usual on shoes that I know are good.
But it’s hard for me to find shoes in general. Also, I have to wear men’s shoes because my feet are enormous and women’s shoes don’t fit me. (My feet don’t look especially big, it’s just that I’m very tall and my feet are in proportion with the rest of me.)
Most of my trips to the mall’s shoe stores, looking for good shoes, end up back at the discount store buying more cheapo shoes.
I haven’t been to shul in decades. And because of the meds I take, I cannot fast. So, MsRobyn, it could be said I’m a bad Jew. But you know what? No one notices and no one cares.
When I started working for the Cable company in 1981, it was just two weeks before the High Holy Days. I couldn’t take off because I hadn’t accrued any vacation or personal time yet (I was still in training). After that, I found I needed my time off for other things like weekend trips and mental health days, so I never took the HHDs off. But I am still and always will be a good Jew because of how I treat others.
eta: except flytrap. There are days he doesn’t deserve my kindness.
And stretches; some calf and the like. Every so often at work I’ll repeat the one move we do during the stand-up stretches and put one foot over the other and bend a little until I feel it along the back of my legs.
On shoes – think more a court show than a running shoe. The little extra ankle support and the difference in tread really make a big difference.
I took today off, largely as a mental health day and I had a fairly light breakfast. You’re right, though. I treat other people well and I’m kind to animals. What more is there to be gained by sitting in shul?
I feel alive for a change, slept mostly through the night. At least when I had to get up I went right back to sleep.
It’s a nice sunny 57 degrees outside with a high of 77 predicted. I think we’ll do a little yard irk today.
Hope you are liking the new job FCM
Midget I can’t stand for long periods of time neither. Never could, even when I was younger. I’d start to feel faint and either throw up or start wobbling.
I’ll keep hope (and thread) alive, Sari. Just back from launch, we went to Logan’s Roadhouse for a colleague who is moving to Maryland (new immigrant to your state, FCM) to work for the Navy. Had my standard fare there (Meatloaf w/fries and salad) so I am typing this to keep from falling asleep at my desk.
Otherwise, need to clean the bathroom tonight (blarg).
