OK, but even given all that, why the “Scum are prepared to mount a defense, and I’m obviously not prepared.” comments at all?
From post 2130:
Why the hell even say this?
Seriously, what the the intent of saying this? It’s obvious that the intent is to say:
“I’m not Scum, see, a Scum would have done XXXXX, and I haven’t done XXXXX yet, because I’m not Scum.”
It looks really really transparently scummy.
The question is, would a Town player even think like this?
Your contention is that Scum have to think their cases through because they might need to defend them.
I think the opposite contention is that Town needs to think their case through because they actally have to create them. They need solid evidence and reserach. They need to have the ideas in the first place.
Scum don’t need that. They know they’re wrong and can jsut create a case and then maybe try to defend it if they take heat. Exactly what you did, and exactly how we’ve caught many Scum in the past.
well, aside from the crazy, ‘Look at me, I’m completely unprepared, so I must not be Scum’ part
Unvote: Mahaloth
(Though he’s still suspicious, and I’d still like to hear what Tom Scud has to say)
ed, that’s a damn good question. I’ve bene asking myself that all morning. I was irritated at the suggestion that I had neglected to provide a defense to the accusations against me. So I once again provided the defense that I had been told I hadn’t provided previously. And then added those last couple paragraphs in an attempt to explain why it might have appeared that I hadn’t provided a proper defense, when in fact I felt I had.
Obviously, I did a very poor job of trying to get my point across. And I shouldn’t have said anything in the first place, because I should know better than to post anything out of frustration. Frustration leads to mistakes, and mistakes lead to lynches. I can’t say more than this, because there’s nothing more to say. I made a mistake, and I’m now dealing with the consequences.
It seems like this is as good a time as any to make a Role Claim, because I’m certain that it will make no difference whatsoever to anyone right now, and will head off any distractions that might surround the subject in the future.
I am Vanilla Town. I know nothing, I see nothing, I did not even get out of bed this morning…
If I’m lynched today, the Town is going to gain nothing from the endeavor. On the other henad, they aren’t going to lose anything, either. The only impact my death will have is that the Unconfirmed Pool will become one person smaller. Since it’s obvious at the moment that nobody has any real clue who the Bad Guys are, I guess it’s better that I die Today than someone who is non-Vanilla.
I’m certain that some of the people voting for me are Town, who firmly believe I’m Scum, and some of you are Scum, who are quietly chuckling to themselves. Hopefully between now and Dusk I can help the town figure out who is who, and maybe rest of the Town can find something in the arguments against me that will help Tomorrow.
And before anyone asks, I’m not ‘giving up’, and I’m not saying “Go ahead, lynch me now”. But it’s pretty obvious that the Town as a whole feels the case against me is the best one going, and barring some unforeseen revelation, I don’t see things changing any time soon.
I’ve been doing a re-rereading of the thread. I find I made an error yesterday. It was not Mrs McGinty who was arguing with Normal Phase. It was lilflower. Beginning with post #1401, she had an extensive disagreement with Normal Phase about the idea that Normal might have been attacked by Scum in order to throw suspicion on to one of the people Normal had shown interest in on Day 1. Normal did not find this likely, but lilflower continued to argue the point in post #1405 and #1445, where she called for support/reflection from the other players. In the mean time, in post #1406, she had said that
At this point peeker had a full head of steam on him and looked fairly likely to be lynched. It looks like a very weak, go-along-with-the-crowd kind of vote.
I’ve seen Suburban Plankton’s claim. Like so many of the vanilla or near-vanilla claims that have been made, there is nothing about this role that says it couldn’t have been slightly tweaked and adjusted from a Scum role. Like the Grizzled Cop who is too old for this shit, the Crooked Local Politician is an excellent candidate for a Godfather - an authority figure that would normally be taken to be unquestionably pro-Town.
So I’m not yet ready to switch off of Suburban. But perhaps some of the rest of you could have a look at lilflower. She was pretty defensive of Telcontar and possibly the other suspect(s) Normal Phase fingered on Day 1.
I’ve also noticed that Mrs McGinty has been quite consistently very defensive about being called out or voted - witness the days-long discussion with peeker while the rest of us were talking about all kinds of other things. So I think that Mrs McGinty is just touchy about being accused, and at this point I don’t suspect him (her?).
Why don’t you do the legwork yourself on the lilflower case? Not that it’s bad to ask someone else to look things up, I’m just curious why now and why that case.
Also, the last paragraph about McGinty. Isn’t that al the more reason to suspect him? The consistent defensiveness? Or is it not suspicious because it’s been consistent?
:dubious:
I mean, if McGinty is Scum, hasn’t he been Scum all game?
Has Mrs McGinty ever actually posted the slew of cases that have been brought against her? I still don’t know why she feels so persecuted. Did I miss it?
I couldn’t help but chuckle at your last two posts. You told me “maybe at this point, you should create a brief timeline”, and then turned right around and told Oy “Why don’t you do the legwork yourself”.
I understand the difference between the two case, but I had to laugh…
I seem to be spending this game picking apart claims.
The last line of Suburb’s PM bothers me:
You have no special powers, abilities, or information. Alas, J.T. Walsh.
The alas seems addressed to Walsh: Alas, J.T. Walsh, you have no powers. Since the body of the PM states that Walsh is dead, something seems amiss to me.
So what would you have done, if you read a post where someone said you argued when you didn’t?
I know what I would have done. I would have pointed it out. Big time.
So to me this seems weird (haven’t re-read it yet, so I’m just saying this based on your quotes and post-numbers).
But if she (as she has a Mrs in the name she’ll be a non-penis possessor to me until I’m corrected) is indeed so “very defensive” when called out and voted for. It seems even more strange that she didn’t call you on your mistake regarding her and lilflower.
At least that’s what I think ATM.
@ TexCat: I did argue with Mrs McGinty for a while there, though – I actually thought that Oy’s post was referring to that when I first read it.
In fact I actually “came in here” to thank Oy for bringing up lilflower again, because I’d forgotten that exchange in all the Suburban Plankton stuff that has been going on since.
My case was actually also:
His post also set him up for making mistakes/slips/contradictions later in the game. And if called for, he could just point back and say “Yeah, but see - if I was scum why would I make that kind of mistake/slip/contradiction? I’ve already said I don’t do that as scum”.
So it was just as much the combination of him not saying “I didn’t do that” in regards to the scum-tell while he at the same time implied that “if ever I do that, it’s because I wasn’t paying attention and then I’d not be scum after all”.
I have seen the claim. I’m going to think about this. It’s late in Denmark and I want to think about this and read some stuff for earlier before making a decision.
When was I “defensive of” (I assume you mean defending) **Telcontar **specifically? I was talking about all the people in Normal’s post (and there were about four people mentioned).
It would make some sense if you’d spent a previous half-paragraph talking about how cool I was back when I was alive, but sadly now I’m dead. It’s a stylistic grace note, not something you can boil down to symbolic logic.
I’ll eat my hat if that line isn’t written by storyteller. (Which doesn’t make the claim legit - by now, with 3 scum down unclaimed, the remaining scum team members are probably swimming in false claims.)
