Except…we’ve all gotten PMs. Not role PMs, but PMs telling us about our roles (for N our certain roles, 30-N our highly probably roles). So the game is afoot in the way cookie suggested and he doesn’t say “role PMs”. If I were scum, I’d be thinking as scum now. If I were highly probable town, I’d be thinking as town. If I were town and became scum in another day or so, then I’d be rather confused when that happened. Then I’d put on my ax murderer face and all would be clear again.
Also, we have every reason to think that neither scum nor town has actual Role PMs yet, so cookies couldn’t be PIS something that is presumably not true. much more likely he meant what he said.

I did it in the LOTR game, but I remember (I think) **NAF1138 **doing it when he was mod… that way it doesn’t disappear when a player is eliminated and it’s always easily accessible from the thread title screen.
I have always wondered about that one. Was it really a slip or was it a joke that turned into being the truth?

Must have been quit a game for you - one buddy making a slip like that and then the other Scum claiming scum. Epic for the rest of us - but I can imagine you must have been slightly… frustrated… at times

This right here is what you call a statement from the mod indicating that two types of PMs were sent out, and reading those PMs will allow players to determine if they are scum or not-yet-scum. This very same statement also indicates that at some future point in time other PMs will be sent distributing the other roles to the rest of the game, which indicates that PMs that have been sent so far are only…wait for it…SOME of the PMs that are going to apply to this game.
Perhaps some of you were thrown by Story’s use of “to that effect”? Because I could perhaps see how it could be interpreted as the scum receiving the same you-are-not-yet-scum as everyone else, but I heartily insist that is not the effect to which he was referring. The effect to which he was referring is the effect of being scum.
I think the argument being made is that some players are assuming that the Scum were sent a PM to the effect of: “you are scum”, just as the rest of us were sent “you are not yet Scum”, but that Roles have not been assigned yet. Your post #137 seems to imply that the Scum have had Roles assigned and not just alignment. Others are questioning whether this is a PIS slip
Yeah that’s my take too, but I couldn’t recall if Oy! was a new-newbie, or just someone who hasn’t played on the Dope yet so I didn’t want to throw around the label of Newbie in ignorance.
I really have a hard time see where we got from “Story has quite clearly stated that only the (scum -1) have had their roles assigned yet” to the “Roles have been assigned”-PIS.
Maybe the problem is that we all need to talk about the difference between roles and “Roles”.
As far as I’m concerned this is will make the Top 10 of most silly discussion Night 0 ever.

I suppose I am guilty as charged of thinking even role-free-yet-self-aware scum off on a scum board plotting their strategy and recruitment as being 90% of the way to already having their actual roles.

Confirming my PM rec’d, and that I am not yet scum. I have finally caught up on the 3 or 4 pages of night 0 posts. Phew! I agree that editing is suspicious, and would add to the evidence for lynching someone. I don’t think I’d vote someone solely for editing, but, who knows? As for the other questions, lynch all millers and at least threaten to lynch all lurkers.
