Yes, but when he slipped(assuming that was indeed a slip) he specifically said that he’d heard it from NAF. It seems very strange to me that he would have phrased it that way unless he had heard it from NAF.
I’m with Rysto there–the case against peeker necessarily involves a case against NAF as well. If NAF comes up Scum, I’d be voting for peeker next, and vice-versa.
If NAF is Scum, I trust that there is a book-thief out there–otherwise, why would he have told the Scum board he lost it? I can see the thief being third-party, perhaps, or maybe even a very interesting Town role. If anyone would do it, it’s story–he’s one of the most creative role designers I’ve ever encountered.
Jesus, I need to go back to remedial mafia school. Assuming that NAF is scum, there are two really obvious options here:
Option 1) NAF gave the book to a scum buddy.
NAF: “Ok, I no longer have the book. Scum X, you should have a package waiting for you.”
Option 2) NAF’s lying about not having the book, and told the scum what his plan was.
NAF: “Guys, I’m going to tell the town that I lost the book overnight. That ought to stump them.”
I’m not saying this is definitely what happened. But we definitely should be hung up over this point, given that our only knowledge of the situation comes from NAF. If he’s scum, we can’t trust anything he says. Seems obvious, but I just fell into that trap and on preview a couple of other people did too.
Option 3) NAF is telling the truth about losing the book, and likely has no clue who he lost it to. That seems to be the entire crux of the case against both he and peeker, after all, that NAF told the Scum board he’d lost the book before he’d told the game thread. If NAF and peeker are Scum, the whole case is predicated on the fact that NAF did, in fact, lose the book.
But here’s the thing, NAF. If peeker says that he swore he saw you saying that you’d lost the book, where did he hear it? Because it sure wasn’t in here. Trying to explain that by saying that peeker has the book doesn’t work, because peeker specifically said he heard about the lost book from you.
He said he saw me saying I lost the book in the middle of the Night. What action resolves mid Night?
It is after this that I propose my plan to use the book on myself. Why the hell would I go through all the trouble of laying out a whole elaborate plan for a book I no longer had? What sense does that make? I do strange things sometimes, but I am not actually crazy.
To elaborate further on point 1 in my last post. I would have needed to have lost the book at the end of the Day in order for that to make sense, because no moderator in their right mind has actions resolving in the middle of a Night cycle.
I’m not as concerned about the ‘slip’ itself because that could certainly be pretty innocuous. What I’m worried about is that he’s changed the post he says he was referencing in the ‘slip’. If it was a mis-interpretation of something **Idle **said, why come back much later and say it was a mis-interpretation of what **NAF **said? Not to mention the fact that him saying “whoops i guess it was idle.” came all of 17 minutes after the ‘slip’. You’d think he would know what he’d read at that point.
I’m comfortable switching my vote, with the caveat that I believe BOTH of them to be Scum at this point. But I think everyone knows that, so my switching means little other than getting my suspicions out on record.
So, I’m watching bandwagon number 3 of this game leave the station and that bothers me. A good case is posted, like 10 people vote immediately without adding analysis. his didn’t work out well for us the last two times, so lets push this one a bit:
1.) Peeker says during night 1 that he thinks NAF said he no longer has the book
2.) At that point, NAF still had the book
Right? I watching harry potter with my girlfriend and she is giving me an impatient look, so I’m not going to double check.
So peeker either
1.) Knew that NAF would lose the book at dawn and was so confident in that knowledge that he forgot it hadn’t already happened. Given the number of power roles likely in this game, this is only really plausible if NAF was also scum. I’m thinking blockers, protectors, the book itself, etc.
2.) Misspoke.
The latter seems more plausible, though peeker seems to have his tail between his legs right now, which counts against him.
