Explosions at Boston Marathon

And after the BPD dismissed the Post report, the FBI has “no commented” it.

Boston Bruins game for tonight is rightfully postponed.

This is just so awful. It was the Rotterdam marathon on Sunday, and my SO was running. After I saw him to the start I stood on a boulder to try to pick him out of the crowd at the start. It struck me then: 10.000 runners, and all these people watching… if someone had had bad intentions… Eery that I thought that just yesterday. :frowning: At the same time, 2 people when there were so many people there. They’re not just vile criminals, they’re also incompetent morons. Let’s be grateful for their incompetence.

I’m am relieved every time I hear someone reporting a loved one is ok, my fingers are crossed for everyone.

I work at a Boston hospital. Mayhem. (I am non clinical, though.). It was wall to wall ambulances.

And the last one has checked in. Sigh of relief for my friends, thoughts and prayers for the people affected and their families.

Boston Globe is live tweeting info as it comes out.

Not that weird - the concussive force of the explosion could have caused a bad connection to arc or something.

The injured count is going up dramatically, but I expect that isn’t more serious injuries but rather people with minor cuts and such who were triaged into low priority categories in ERs finally being counted.

The JFK Library is miles away from the finish line of the marathon.

So is the Boston Symphony performance. With the Green Line shut down, those decisions were forced anyway.

Only 5 miles away.

Yeah, I was avoiding that photo of the guy with his legs blown off, and watching the Globe’s live update site, and someone tweeted that exact pic and it was up for 2 seconds before someone at the Globe wisely removed it. Can’t unsee it though.
It’s good to see all the offers of help there.

Okay, that’s weird then.

Far enough that the explosions at the finish line didn’t cause an electrical problem at the JFK library.

A tweet from NBC Sports:

I don’t even care to fact check it. I need to believe it right now.

According to CBS, the library has reported that it was indeed an electrical fire which just happened to have occurred by coincidence and that no one was injured. So it appears that the commish spoke out based on insufficient information.

I had the exact same unfortunate experience.

Google has set up a people finder for those still looking for word on friends or family: http://google.org/personfinder/2013-Boston-explosions/

Obama to speak at 6:10 pm Eastern.

I’m so very glad that so many Dopers have been able to account for their family and friends well-being. There’s a lot of tragedy in this, so any instance of escape is remarkable and uplifting.
