Local news in Boston is now reporting that it is confirmed as an explosive device, though the back-to-back explosions made that a pretty safe bet beforehand.
Actually, they seem to have redacted the part that mentioned deaths. I guess the situation is still developing.

At this early stage, it is waaaaaaay too early to start blaming people.
CBS is saying the blasts were three minutes apart, and if that’s right and the reports about “devices” are true, it’s certainly not an accident. But there’s nothing to be gained by jumping to conclusions about who did it at this point.

My brother got hold of them finally. They left about 1/2 hour before the explosion and were on the train back to the hotel when it happened so they didn’t hear or feel it. They were having trouble with their cell phones, he thinks because of everyone trying to call at once.

Yeah, let’s not speculate too much. The real story will come out soon enough, and I doubt the real reasons will make any more sense than anything we come up with here.
