No reason to consider the MIT incident is related. It could just be the stupidest common criminal alive who tried to break into a building while the police presence is at maximum level.

Now that explosives appear to have been involved, I think the chance of it being related are a lot higher.

Reportedly there was a car jacking attempt at MIT.

I suppose that could have been an attempt by the bombers to get out of town.

I’m watching CNN as well and checking the Twitter feed for Michael Skolnik. You can follow his tweets on the Huffington Post page here if you are so inclined. So far he has had a jump on info that has been confirmed within a few minutes by CNN and other news outlets.

He just said FBI and ATF are on the scene.

CNN is reporting live.

There is a massive multi-agency response in Watertown, not too far from MIT. Gunfire and explosions were reported. Two suspects reported in custody.

Now CNN says ONE suspect is in custody. Of course CNN doesn’t have a great track record lately.

Flipping between CNN, WCVB and WHDH in Boston. CNN is showing the WHDH feed, but not their reporters. Their reporters are giving much more details than CNN.

They just interviewed the camera man that shot the footage of the gut on the street with his arms spread out, but all the police backing away from him. He said right before that was shot, a number of louds booms went off and the air smelled like burnt rubber and electrical burns.

They’ve showed lots of FBI, ATF, Dignitaries and Military being there.

The reporters that shot that footage said they’ve been pushed back 5 or 6 blocks by police.

Breaking News: UPDATE: One suspect still at large according to Massachusetts State Police. There also seem to have been explosives other than grenades. Police and reporters are being asked to turn off their cell phones to avoid setting off explosives. (Update at 1:29 a.m.)

UPDATE: (All information according to police radio transmissions) Officers hurt, at least one suspect is hurt, in custody, and en route to a hospital. At least one more suspect, it is unconfirmed at this time if he is in custody or not. Suspects seem to have stolen a state police SUV, used long guns and set off grenades. (Posted at 1:22 a.m.)

UPDATE AND WARNING: Reports of shootings in Watertown. Possible explosions, reported stolen State Police SUV. There may be officers down.

At 10:48 p.m., gunshots were reported near 32 Vassar Street (Stata Center). One officer was shot and taken to Mass General Hospital, and has been confirmed dead. MIT recommends staying clear of the area. Check back for more updates.

Nothing much seems to be happening in Watertown. Cops are dispersing. They may not have the guy they want. No real word about the explosions.
