I have to admit, my first thought was not homegrown terrorism. I think 9/11 jaded me more than I like to admit. Domestic terrorism? Could be. What motivation? Fucked if I know.

I just brought up CNN and saw this breaking story. 
Whoever is responsible better start running because they will be found and dealt with. I just hope they aren’t N Korean.

Police are now confirming the first two explosions were from bombs which were deposited in trash cans near the finish line. They are also confirming they have recovered a third explosive device intact. In addition, they report they have photos of a suspicious-looking person who was carrying a couple of backpacks in the area just minutes before the explosions occurred.
I hope so. I really do.
…there would have been live cams up and down the course: I wonder if the feeds are recorded?
Also photography companies like this one literally take a photo of every runner at several stages over the race. I’m sure the police will be combing over that footage.
Just found out a relative was running in the race and had taken her son over there as well. And a former NZ MP had just crossed the finish line just before the explosion. Even on the other side of the world this hurts. 
I don’t even want to turn the damned TV on at this point.

I’d say the chances of it being North Korea are about zero. CNN has the story evolving still (and probably will for some time yet), and has the injured count at 22 and death toll at 2…so far.
This could be a lone nut or a terrorist group, but I’m pretty sure the North Korean government didn’t drop a couple of pipe bombs in the trash during the Boston Marathon.

It’s funny how everyone knows this is probably right-wing domestic terrorism but no one can say it on TV for fear of the backlash. I just watched CNN for half an hour and the fact that today is tax day and Patriot Day was not mentioned even once. Fox news is probably blaming Bill Ayers.

That is … really just not something you ever expect to see on a street in America. I know we’re not special or better than anyone else, but… I just can’t really make it mesh - seeing something like that ON A BOSTON STREET.
