Hello all-
I will be temporarily leaving the boards- likely for a few months, except occasional reading when I can. I would not normally post something like this (as if people would sit around Christmas dinner saying "Hey- wonder where the hell Zette’s been??), but here is the reason for my absence.
A very close friend of mine is 5 1/2 months pregnant and suffering from a lot of pain from an unknown source. She’s seeing the best doctors there are, and the prognosis for the baby is good, but she has been put on bedrest until further notice. (Very possibly for the remainder of the pregnancy). I am loaning her my laptop computer so she can get some work done, surf the web, and keep herself busy. She is literally bedbound and can’t sit at her computer at all- even to check e-mail.
So that’s it folks- I’m looking for good vibes to go her way. She’s 35 and pregnant with her first child, and this whole thing has really put her in a funk. She can’t go home for Christmas, she’s stuck in bed with little to do, and I’m just praying to God that she and the baby turn out OK. Thanks for your thoughts and prayers and I’ll see you regularly in a few months. Otherwise, it will be an occasional post from the library.
(PS- pray for me to get through my computer withdrawl. This is like cutting off my right arm giving up my 'puter )
Does your friend know about Sidelines? http://www.sidelines.org .
They provide support to moms on bedrest during pregnancy. They also have people she can email or talk to on the phone who have been through bedrest.
I have always admired you, Zette, and I will miss your posts while you don’t have your computer. Please keep us updated on your friend and her baby, whenever you can.
Back in April, I was put on partial bedrest for a few weeks (baby wasn’t due until the end of June). I was able to sit at my computer, but my all my other activities were extremely limited. During that time, I stumbled onto the Straight Dope site. The internet was real sanity-saver for me.
BTW, baby made it to full term, and he’s sitting in my lap now, trying to help Mom type.
Have a merry Christmas, and best wishes to your friend.
I am sending healing thoughts and prayers to your friend.I sure do hope that everything turns out okay, and that you end up with a healthy, happy baby to hold. Too bad you will have to give her/him back when he gets fussy!
I needed bed rest for the last couple of months for my last two pregnancies, and it was really boring!! A laptop would have been the perfect thing to keep me from going crazy.
It’s wonderful thing you’re doing, Zette, but we’ll miss you while you’re “gone”. Just make sure you don’t forget to return here in a few months when you’re back online.
Hey, be good and come back when you can. Also, give my best wishes and good vibes to your friend. If it doesn’t hurt when she laughs have her check out
Sometimes I just cant understand how one person can be so friggin kind ALL THE TIME!! Arent you EVER selfish???
Zette, sweetie… someday all the nice things you have done, and all the caring you have done for others will come back to you tenfold. You are one of the most decent people I know. Your friend is lucky to have you. Check in when you can ok?
I’ll miss ya,
Kelli
(seeing as how I will be posing 24hrs a day now that I am unemployed - I am REALLY gonna miss ya!)
Wow…I can’t imagine having to be put on bedrest for that long…I know exactly how lucky I am that my pregnancies were EASY.
Make sure you steer her our way.
And, MAN, if I could, I would send you a makeshift system so that you could at least have rudimentary internet…I know how painful it’s gotta be to give up your system, but I also know HOW MUCH she will appreciate it.
Zette, you are a very kind and giving person. I hope all goes well for your friend and her baby.
What are you going to do with all your free time?
Rose
Sending you my deepest admiration, Zette and best wishes to your friend and her baby. It’s good to be reminded how much kindness, decency and hope still exist in this world.
